Joey Votto basically took the first two months of the year off, but has an OPS of around 1.100 since June 1.

aside from a few young/er players who are trying to earn some playing time next year, i figure just about everyone else involved in this series will be more worried about their fantasy football team/s than their actual baseball team

I'm glad the Cubs will just be able to flick the switch and pound the good pitchers they'll see in the playoffs because watching the stiffs from Milwaukee and now the Red shut them down is great.

This is why the teams who clinch first usually don't do shit in the playoffs. They go in a lull and the switch never flips back on.

I'm sure you have some data that you can cite to back that up.

Out of the last 20 teams to clinch a playoff spot first, only 3 of them have won the World Series.

Or data to make that up. Clinching first or last does not matter at all. Beat everyones ass in the playoffs and it is a moot point.

I thought the narrative last year was they they were beat up and tired heading into the playoffs due to the hard push at the end for the wild card.

There was no hard push. The Cubs wrapped up that 2nd Wild Card spot pretty easily.

I don't know what confuses me more ... why a ballplayer (or, really, anyone) would want to provide a way for literally any idiot to get a message to them, or why any idiot would think a ballplayer (anyone) would take even a second to read said message.

I want him to have a contract in his hand the day after the season ends to be Joe's bench coach for as long as Joe's here and then take over for him when he splits town (assuming it all doesn't get lit on fire).

Dude, I'm 100% on board with that. We will be called meatballs for it, but whatever... I like winning.

When you're the league MVP, you're allowed to take yourself off the basepaths when you're up 6-1 against the Reds.
