There's 3+ cats in the barn, two sisters that my wife adopted as her own children, and at least one full-time stray: Shadow Cat will be under your feet like your shadow. She has learned of the treats supplied to the sisters and she is jealous.

Always told the kids that we would get a dog when we moved to the farm (2002), but wife said NO (and she is the dog lover). I envisioned a well-trained Australian or Border collie, but I'm sure the well-trained part scared her off.

to keep a close eye on him on walks. He's 50 lbs of muscle and can be a real handful if he sees something he wants to get to. Not sure why he turned out
this way but I am sure I am mostly to blame. I took him to obedience classes and even doggy day care for the first year but he kept getting sick from going
so I stopped taking him. I give him a prozac each morning and that has made a big difference with his anxiety when we leave for work. I don't have any
children of my own so I kind of spoil the dog and it drives my wife crazy. I like him better than her kids

Boxers are great. They really are alert on walks. The one we knew was weary of everybody but once he knew you, you became like his family. They are so strong.

I'm a fan of the breed. They aren't the brightest but certainly not dumb either. Athletic and pretty short coat. Don't do very well in extreme heat or cold which is a negative.
Best attribute they have is they love their family and act like goofy clowns at home.

Had two dogs, a Rhodesian Ridgeback mix (he was 100lbs lapdog) and some other mutt. They were both a pain in the ass. When my son was born they both were pretty aggressive towards him. We tried to make them more comfortable and slowly introduce the baby with them but they still growled any time the baby was near. I wasn't about to mess with that so they both went back to the humane society. No great loss, I was happy. I like dogs but I realized that I don't like owning a dog.

One Saturday they all had a wedding to go to, and fed him in the morning and left. When they got back that evening he was laying down in the hallway and they couldn't get him to his feet. Ended up taking him to a vet and found out he was diabetic and had a missing pancreas. By that time they had already got attached to him so they decided to end up spending the $500-600 a month or whatever on medication and enzyme powder and shit for him. He appears to be as healthy as an ox now. He's a pretty damn good dog.

Unless you are a millionaire I cant condone spending $500 a month just on meds for a dog. No dog is that cool. That is an insane amount of money to spend.

I wouldn't assume my family would keep ME alive if the bill was $500 per month let alone a dog.

We almost had two more pets over the summer. The mother of these two gangstaz dropped them off in our yard while she hunted. They stayed for a couple of days and we fed 'em before bringing them to the Humane Society. My kids were slightly upset....until the people at the Humane Society assured them that they'd be adopted, as they are kittens...

agreed. whenever visiting my gf's family their GSP is insane. dude always want to play. great when you're over for a weekend. but everyday would be exhausting.

parents forbid having a dog. said who would take care of it when traveling and such. we had no logical rebuttal.

what do you people do with the dog whenever you travel or go to work?

I have a 1-year old Boxer, and he's quite the derp-fest. Loves to jump all around the bed and rough-house or play tug-of-war, but will (eventually) lay down when I tell him to if I'm working or doing something else. He's a good dog, when he wants to be.

Awesome with the kids...loves people, too. Let's my 18 month old do whatever she wants to him and when he's had enough, he just walks away...sometimes with her holding on. Then he just lays down and huffs.

Only problem is that he thinks he's a lap dog. Given the number of nut shots I've taken from him, it's a miracle I have 2 kids.

If you look at their build and face markings you can see the relation to Rotts from way back when. Yet no outcry on these.

Yeah, the breed tends to lend it's temperament to be more like St Bernards and Newfoundlands...the mountain rescue dogs.

Yeah I wouldn't say they are close. They are different, and I think the bmd were farming dogs. I'm not a huge fan of Rotts or terriers.

My wife wanted to stud him out, and she went through the certification process. His hips came back as "fair" according to AKC standards, so she changed his mind...they did send a note back complimenting his markings as some of the best they've seen in a long time.
