They were talking about a trade for Fernandez last week on Hit and Run too

At this point, I can't see it happening

Though the Bears will probably trade a 2nd rd pick for him

The players are quick to spout platitudes when the tired cliche' supports their interests, like, "it's just business." But when it goes the other way, fuck the fan. What about, "the show must go on?" There's probably some guy out there who planned his whole month around taking his kid to that game. Now that child can't smell the grass and that helps Jose' Fernandez how?

The Marlins have even worse attendance than the Sox.

The guy could've made it to any other game.

Cubs would have had to give up some quality players to get that guy...

I'm pretty sure every team was interested in one of the ten best starters in the game. Talking about the Cubs' interest in the wake of his death is less than appropriate.

That kid's favorite player was Jose Fernandez. I'm sure the kids day was ruined before the game cancellation was announced.

Maybe he works every weekend.

Anyway, I'm sure you get the point. The fan has become a necessary evil to support a structure that holds him in low regard.

If the people who had a ticket to today's game are upset it was canceled because of a popular player's death, fuck them.

Life and the show does go on, but Jesus Christ, the game can be rescheduled given this all just happened hours ago.

I'd like to think people are little more farsighted and compassionate than this, JORR, and will have Jose, his family, and the Marlins' organization in their thoughts and prayers for just having lost a loved one. Not be upset over a fucking game, no matter how far in advance they may have planned to attend it.

I'm sure that kid and his dad can go recycle that ticket and take the proceeds from that to buy a ticket to see the dolphins and browns.

I'm sure JORR started this belief with Daryl Kile's death as a way to rip the Cubs

When you or your co-worker dies, does your business shut down? Certainly not if it's one as large as an MLB franchise.

A player on the 25-man roster dying that day is an acceptable reason to cancel the day's game. I wouldn't be in the mood to go watch a Cubs game if Kyle Hendricks just got mangled beneath a boat.

Oh, I figured it out, JORR is still salty about everyone getting emotional about Joe Girardi's announcement when Darryl Kile died.

No but the members of my team would be given a day off.

Didn't Jerry cancel a game a year or 2 ago because of weather....even though it never rained and he just thought concessions and walk up ticket sales would be terrible?

Come to think of it, if an NFL player keeled over and died during warmups, they probably wouldn't postpone the scheduled game. There you go. Baseball has a heart while America's TV Show uses death as a reason to play the pensive piano-solo version of the NFL On Fox theme song.

What a loss for the sport. He was a special player and from what people are saying he was a good dude, too. This is a tough one.

I don't "care so much." I'm just pointing out the separation that has occurred between the fan and the player in my lifetime. I don't really have an issue with the game being cancelled after a player's death if that was all it was. But it's just an example of the way the entire game is now built around the concerns, conveniences, and feelings of the players with precious little regard for the fans.

The fans have always been ancillary to the sport.

This isn't a surprise.

This guy was huge in the Cuban community. I imagine it's a bit different feeling down in South Florida. I'm hoping someone wasn't drunk boating, that usually is the case in these accidents.

What a loss. He was one of my favorite young players in the way he played with such joy.
