I haven't seen it.

So maybe we're lucky and his school isn't insane.

Then you will have kids who claim they don't have their phones as to not put then in the case. Then sneak them out when they think you are not paying attention.

You can't really fine kids in public schools.

Public schools have all kinds of fees. Charge a "Phone repossession Fee".

Done.

You can't fine students in public schools. Charter used to do it but I think they had to stop the practice a few years ago.

It's not a fine, it's a fee. Public schools charge hundreds of dollars in fees per year. Are they all illegal?

Install phone lockers like they have at the courthouse ahead of the metal detectors.

Then the kids can keep their phones in those all day along with their drug and weapons.

Insanity.

Kids eat what is made. Or they can choose leftovers from yesterday if they want.

Otherwise you aren't eating and going to bed hungry.

Simple.

In theory, that sounds good. And you might be able to swing it in your house, but given the weird schedules people have, it doesn't always work out. So much easier when it does, though. And much more enjoyable to all eat together.

That one don't eat this, and this one don't eat that.

My kids' school has a "phone-in-locker" policy. If it is out during the day, it's confiscated. There is a section in the parent handbook releasing the school from the liability of lost or damaged phones. I realize it probably wouldn't hold up under scrutiny, but it's a catholic school so they'd have to answer to someone else.

The point being, the kids and parents know the expectations up front and the parents are involved enough to back up the enforcement. MANY kids have phones but the school rarely has a need to confiscate them.

Catholic Schools have a different set of rules.
My 12 yr old attends public school in the SW burbs and they have the same policy. It seems to be effective.

Got that right, remember the stry from about a year ago with the kid who was at one of the elite schools who racked up over $300 in fines and they where going to expel him. His mother put up a stink that she could not afford to pay so they could not do that to him and they basically let it slide. I mean why have rules and a code of conduct that both the parent and student agree to before school starts to have them basically later in the year tell the school to go fuck themselves. I also remember most of the SJW around here siding with the parent on this.

Depends. Is the 16 year-old a male or female?

Female robot/male student

My 16 year old nephew is on Facebook and shit all day long when he's at school. Every now and again, either my wife or I will call him out on there with a "aren't you in class?" type of comment, and his response is always, "it doesn't matter in class, we can do whatever we want".

Fucking weird to me.

(Ring sound effect)

It is the clueless administrators who approved of and allow children to have phones in high school. The teachers hate them, knowing how much they are of a distraction. Yet, the superintendents and principals expect the teachers to be miracle workers and make the kids learn, when there's virtually no incentive for them to do that.

While the above is a big cause for concern, the root-problem is generational. Children these days have no respect for teachers or their parents, because parents do not instill values in them, nor discipline them. And then the teachers aren't allowed to discipline either in the schools. You send a kid to the office, and he's back in 10 minutes.

I would prefer that children in middle school and high school have to repeat grades for failing grades. If they don't advance after one year, they should be forced to find a private school at the parents expense. If they don't have the money, tough bananas. You had your one chance.

So true. That social emotional learning stuff is crap. Then the school doesn't enforce what they taught anyway. Nobody really teaches these kids how to study or hold them accountable for much. Parents don't even know in Some cases because the kids are given good grades and everybody tells you they are great because it's almost forbidden to correct them on anything.

So weird. If the kids do not pay attention why do they not just fail them. Or if they are smart enough to pass without paying attention so be it. It's the kind child's own future, make them responsible.
