How is $125K delineated as the point at which people can afford college? Fuck that noise. First, 50K per year is a big stumbling block for just about anyone. Second, colleges are going to raise tuition on those that do pay. Third, Give people free college and the majority of them will value it as such.

You have to make them free across the board or this plan is shite.

Some say he came out firing, I say he came off poorly. Plenty of reaction that way online, too. Letting each other speak was one thing Trump and Hillary actually did well (save for a few one-word Trump retorts - "Wrong!"). Pence knows what he's doing and actually angled himself into a 2020 face-off with Paul Ryan.

Ultimately, this debate doesn't matter for the current election, though. They didn't change anything.

Kaine was nowhere near as bad as Biden but the media is making a big deal out of his interruptions but praised Biden for not allowing Ryan to speak

Fivethirtyeight put Kaine interruptions at 70+ and Pence around 40. It would be interesting to see what Biden's number was if I can find it. I do remember Biden being just as annoying as Kaine.

The whole plan is a disaster. Free college is a really dumb idea. It basically turns college into grades 13-16 and the natural response will be a job market for college graduates that is roughly equal to the current job market for high school graduates.

It's never going to fly in an election but we need to start limiting college acceptance and the ability to get loans for it.

It doesn't though. The rich can go to school forever and pay for it. The devaluing of the bachelor degree only hurts the poor and the middle class. The increased cost of attendance from all this government money flowing in only hurts the poor and middle class.

By the time my kid is attending college a college degree will be pretty much meaningless at this pace. You'll have to attend school afterwards because everyone will have a bachelors degree.

Not to mention that the poor and middle class, with "free tuition" still have to live and eat and find a place to live and afford other expenses not covered so that puts them in debt and then they are 22-23 years old with a "free degree" that can't get them a decent job and they have to go to school for more years which the government won't cover and then they go bigger in debt and the whole thing perpetuate further.

Cost is an issue for the poor and middle class. Should they be priced out of college? Should the ITT's of the world or community college be their only options?

It depends on your ability. Every poor and middle class person shouldn't be guaranteed a college education at least in the standard way of graduate high school and go to college. There are ways to get the true academic elite from those groups in and it happens naturally mostly.

The injection of money into colleges by the government is one of the major reasons it is more expensive. Expanding that to giving more people free education will devalue it so much that it won't even be an advantage. It's just like a high school diploma. You can't get a good job with one now. Do we really want to do that for college? College was never designed as a way to educate every child in America.

All this free college stuff will do is make a Masters degree a requirement for a good job.

It will also make any elite private school even more elite, which will allow them to increase their price.

I believe University of Georgia provides free tuition to in state students who maintain a 3.0 and above. I could kind of get behind that idea, but I'd expect that it would result in grade inflation (moreso than it is already present)

Wow. That's almost Nas-like in terms of bad trolling.

Are you serious? Seems like MANY made the same observation I did. Kaine came off horribly with the constant interruptions. Not trolling here.

This is why I support Hillary. She doesn't believe that college should just be for the rich and elite. She doesn't believe that everyone who isn't rich or elite should be resigned to a future of flipping burgers.

I flipped burgers to get through college debt free. Took 8 1/2 years but no debt. It frustrates me to hear the phrase "free college".

What is your trolling vs non-trolling ratio?

Is there an equilibrium to what you do?

I think what would happen is that public colleges would become almost like community college, and private schools would become even more "elite."

I still think there could be some benefits, but the public schools would have to maintain high academic standards. It shouldn't be a situation where everyone can just get in if they feel like it.

Free college means blue collar workers subsidizing rich kids education. It's one of the very worst ideas in either side of the aisle.

If the government wants to be pushing anything for free, it should be education towards learning a trade, not college. The Scooter's of the world all need to learn how to drive properly through rural areas and not get lost. We don't need more Art History majors,

I agree with that and saw Sanders's push for free college as starting the negotiations there to end up at free technical school/community college.

"Those who don't value it" already describes 50% of the population on college campuses today.

However, my real argument is free college for only those making less than $125K

Totally false. The FBI agreed that she didn't break the law. Hillary saved Georgia and killed Bin Laden. There is no evidence that Hillary destroyed the reputation of the 1 woman who accused Bill of raping her. Hillary Clinton will be the greatest president of our lifetime.
