Despite the warnings, lots of people here in the United States said, "We are not going anywhere."

We will not cover your funerals, and we will not feel sorry for you.

They're stocking up supplies, boarding up their homes, and hoping... which is moronic.

WYC. Yes they will and all the carnage as well.

Don't forget that they will blame Obama.

Well I suppose he has as much to do with this as Bush did with Katrina.

Nobody blamed Bush for the hurricane, just his terrible response, including the joke who was the head of FEMA. But, don't let facts get in the way.

Obviously, the POTUS will have to take the fall for the failure of the bureaucracy below them and in Katrina's case the failure of the state governments, local governments and things like the Red Cross as well. Presidents really affect these things very little.

My statement was sarcastic and intended to show that even if this new disaster turns into the biggest train wreck of all time there is very little Obama can do about it. Many will blame him for not caring enough or getting there for a photo quick enough to show he cares though.

Let's not blame Bush, but sideswipe the state and local gov't of New Orleans. It sounds like you are like my FIL and mother, who to this today, blame the mayor of New Orleans for the terrible response to Katrina.

Local gov't doesn't handle disaster relief from hurricanes. That's what FEMA is for.

pittmike wrote:

It didn't read as sarcasm. It read as a weak defense of Bush. Only the most partisan hack can view his response to Katrina as acceptable. Seeing as how hard you pushed the false Benghazi narrative, it's tough, for me anyway, to read posts like that as sarcasm.

Your best bet as an obvious Bush supporter, is to not bring up his incredible failures.

pittmike wrote:

Then those people are idiots. Florida Governor Rick Scott said that he had spoken to President Obama several times, and Obama approved his request that MANY counties be declared as major disaster areas.

And this concludes today's episode of False Equivalency Theater.

You have trouble then with sarcasm. Saying any POTUS has perfect control of all the wheels turning under them for a disaster like this is ridiculous. Clearly, the system was flawed at the time of Katrina and hopefully it is better now. I guess your point of the Scott and Obama talking is a sign of that. More importantly it is better that the thousands of people under them are working correctly and efficiently.

You seem to think Bush is SOLELY to blame for Katrina. So then if this becomes a complete clusterfuck on the level of Katrina I will then expect ALL of the blame to be on Obama alone.

As far as side swipe at all the other agencies involved in Katrina it wasn't my thoughts but just a quick wiki look to see how fucked up it was: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Criticism ... ne_Katrina

"Criticism from politicians, activists, pundits, and journalists of all stripes has been directed at the local, state and federal governments.
New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin was also criticized for failing to implement his food plan and for ordering residents to a shelter of last resort without any provisions for food, water, security, or sanitary conditions. Perhaps the most important criticism of Nagin is that he delayed his emergency evacuation order until less than a day before landfall, which led to hundreds of deaths of people who (by that time) could not find any way out of the city.[2] Adding to the criticism was the broadcast of school bus parking lots full of yellow school buses which Mayor Nagin refused to be used in evacuation. When asked why the buses were not used to assist evacuations instead of holing up in the Superdome, Nagin cited the lack of insurance liability and shortage of bus drivers.[3]"

I illustrated pretty clearly why I didn't think it was sarcasm. Why even bring up Bush to begin with?

It's apparent that your post was a passive aggressive shot at liberals for not being fair to Bush.

pittmike wrote:

I didn't say anything even close to that.

pittmike wrote:

Now, you are blaming "the system" Wasn't Bush in charge of "the system"?

When Katrina hit New Orleans, bush had been on vacation in Texas for 27 days. He still didn't cut the vacation short until two days after Katrina hit. Meanwhile, Obama is out in front of this, working with FEMA and local officials.

http://www.usnews.com/news/the-report/a ... rge-w-bush

Quote:
"He never recovered from Katrina," says a former Bush adviser and Republican strategist who wants to remain anonymous to avoid offending the Bush family. "The unfolding disaster with the Iraq war [a conflict which Bush ordered] didn't help, but it's clear that after Katrina he never got back the popularity that he had." Referring to Bush's decision to fly over the ravaged areas and allow photos to be taken of him peering out the window, the former adviser added: "He's rued that decision ever since."

Bush himself said his response wasn't good enough, but you still defend him.

But, let's rip Obama for playing golf just minutes away from the White House.

Nothing like citing an extremely vague wikipedia entry, and presenting false equivalencies to prove a point. It sounds like you are SOLELY blaming Ray Nagin.

I just got a text from him. He said that the worst of it has passed. They boarded up the windows, and had minimal damage to the house. A couple of pieces of wood came down, but nothing serious. The roof is intact, and the house didn't flood.
