Said this yesterday to a guy I work with. I said when was the last time Bryant had a clutch hit or a good at bat when it mattered. He's going to die a slow death in the playoffs again this year and it's going to absolutely suck.

Good thing I don't prefer any WAR. Go look at how many posts I reference WAR in.

Rizzo is still the best hitter on the team.

Rizzo may be the best hitter on the team, but Bryant's versatility in the field is probably going to be what pushes him over the rest of the candidates. I'm sure the writers/voters are chomping at the bit to have a "utility" player MVP.

You guys are collectively planking me just to see if I will make a favorable post about Bryant, correct?

Based on what?

Based on their statistics being virtually identical this season, and yet Rizzo has three years of consistency behind those numbers.

Yes...calling Kris Bryant the best on his team by nearly every possible objective matter would be considered drivel, considering the above. Bryant leads in OPS by .005 ... Rizzo leads in RBI by 2 ... BA off by .001.

He's got a few walk off homeruns (which probably leads the league) in addition to the Dodger game theatrics.

He hit a homer in a tie game of a tied playoff series in his rookie year. That was pretty clutch.

Also, first inning homeruns matter. I can agree on wanting other guys up in a big situation but that doesn't mean they are more valuable overall

I'm not accusing Kris Bryant of being a bad ballplayer.

I'm just saying his performance has taken a dive in 'clutch situations' versus early in games / in non competitive games. I didn't notice it last year...I noticed it quite a bit this year.

I'm sure he's average but as a meatball Cubs fan I swear I just don't have much confidence in him when the games on the line.

Has been so far in the NLDS. Really hoping Anthony stops expanding his strike zone and can square a couple pitches up tonight and get on a nice roll.

MVP is a regular season award.

That being said, I'm glad Bryant has decided to show up in the 2016 NLDS after being a non-entity in last year's postseason, and I wait for Rizzo to do the same.

Rizzo has more RBI, but batted 3rd mostly, with Fowler and Bryant getting on base a lot for him (after Heyward was kicked out of the 2 spot, for horrible production), while Bryant was either batting 2nd or 3rd, with Heyward in the #2 spot, which meant Heyward hitting all too often into a 4, 6, 3 double play if Fowler got on ahead of him. yet Bryant still wound up with 102 RBI, led the league in scoring and played mostly real well in 2 outfield positions and 1st base, as well as 3rd base. His versatility and high level of play at all the positions he played were vital after Schwarber went down in game #3 of the season. I think he gets the MVP and deservedly so.

Is there an MVP for the NLDS? If so, it's gotta be KB.

2 GWRBI and great defense. Didn't make 2 errors on one play either.

Javy is definitely the other choice, but if Bryant doesn't lead off with that hit, the Cubs most certainly lose. Baez had very little pressure on the GW RBI as they had already tied it and the bullpen was in a full five-alarm fire.

Okay, relatively little pressure  At that point they were playing with house money.

Rizzo looked better last night so I'm not sure what you're talking about.

When he's really off, his strike zone becomes 50 feet wide when he has 2 strikes on him.

That wasn't the case last night, he was tracking pitches better. Had a nice hit and that at bat in the 9th was great.

Collective work in the series...even at the home games at Wrigley...Rizzo was bad.

Baez also had very little pressure in game 1 when he hit his homerun since it was tied.

I'd vote for Baez MVP but his impact may be magnified by the fact the pitchers behind him were raking and Rizzo was wasting Bryant's contributions.
