I don't know about that. I'd say you just won't notice them as much because he has better hitters and pitchers than the next guy. If they win that game, none of you are talking about his bullpen usage. At least not negatively. You're probably saying that he knew exactly when to ride Montgomery and for exactly how long.

MANY criticized his usage during the game.

So you are better managers!

MANY realize a person is never 100% correct in their actions.

I have a dumb question I've been thinking about that maybe you smart people can answer.

If Rizzo continues to struggle and Bryant continues to hit, if the right situation arises do you think Bryant will be intentionally walked?

Uhhh, I said exactly that. Check the FB discussion you're a part of. I was talking about how Montgomery would be used and effective for four innings when he came in. (And said this before he even faced his first batter.) A few people thought that was excessive and disagreed with me.

Not to pull an Elmhurst Steve...but I was correct about the outfield alignment being an issue...and I was correct about the bullpen stuff.

I don't know what kind of baseball fan you think you are, but I consider myself an expert when it comes to the game. You can list off some more players that played in the 1950's then I can...but when it comes to the game between the lines... I'll take myself over anyone not involved in MLB...and probably before a few of those guys as well.

Yeah right. Not touching anyone. Can you explain why it's dumb? I think it's something that needs to be planned for.

I'm not going to believe it's going to happen until it happens. When it becomes a strategy is when you need to do something about it.

Can we not turn this thread into another circular argument about managers? There's like 5,000 other threads for that.

You do realize that's exactly what every guy who watches 60 games a year and complains about managers thinks. I'd bet a lot of money you don't even know all the rules.

How can you put any faith in a team that has needed 6 RBI's from the pitching staff to win?

5 years of planning for this????

These clowns better start hitting!

It's not like there are a lot of hot Cubs Maddon can bat third right now. Maybe Arrieta or Wood.

All Maddon can do is put out the lineup that brought him to the dance.

His handling of the relief corp may be another issue, but that Montgomery
gave a gritty performance last night.

Arrieta would have but he got poor run support from himself.

Likewise. But I'm not the guy claiming to know more about the game than big league managers.

Can you imagine the stuff Joe would pull out of his hat for a Game 5? He'll have Wood, Arrieta, and Chapman playing the outfield and rotating them onto the mound.

Idiot. I've claimed the exact opposite. Over the course of a season, Maddon and other tenured managers will make more good moves than I do. You, however, believe that I am just as smart as any MLB manager since you believe managers do not matter, and that moves have no affect on a game.

But to think that every single person involved in MLB is smarter than every single hardcore fan...that is asinine.

There was a minute there with Strop and Wood that I thought he was going to do just that. I just couldn't figure out where he'd put Strop.

If no one is on base, just have a second pitcher catching. Who cares how many balls get by and peg the ump.

You'd hire me just as easily as you'd hire anyone else to manage.

If managers matter that much then if Maddon loses yet another post season series as the favorite can we start to question him?
