I'd say to step on their throats early, but that won't be enough. You have to step on their throats for nine innings.

I don't know how anyone can deny that the Giants are at that Patriots/Red Wings/Cardinals level of always having some clutch performance or strange occurrence to draw from, the kind of luck where it's beyond the residue of design and can only be the universe fucking with you. The best example I can think of was when Hjalmarsson scored late to lock up the Game 7 win against Detroit only to have the goal washed out because Kyle Quincey wrestled with Brandon Saad off the play and drew coincidental minors out of it. Thankfully, the Hawks won in sudden death, but can you imagine that scenario with any other foe? I can't.

I don't care what sort of word salad Joe Maddon barfs out about pleasuring the pressure or keeping your eye on the petting zoo or 162 divided by 9 + 11 times horse cocks = 108 or whatever. He's not the first manager to come to town and say that things are different now. I don't remember Dusty Baker or Lou Piniella coming in and saying "we're going to win the World Series, but of course, we will do so with the proper deference to goat-based ghost stories, never forgetting that weird shit forever happens to us en route to blowing series leads." It just never stops happening.

So it would be great to anti-climactically win this in four with a no-doubter of a performance. That's really the only way out of this. Go back to Chicago and it's an eighth straight three-loss exit and a winter of pondering the likelihood of winning 95 games three years in a row.

Why is Heyward batting ahead of Baez? Forget the debate about if Heyward should be playing or even on the playoff roster.....why is he hitting ahead of Baez?

So that they have to sort of pitch decently to Heyward with a real hitter coming up after him rather than whoever the hell else at the bottom of the order it would otherwise be. This isn't difficult to understand.

I appreciate the attempt by CH not to piss in my kool-aid tonight. That's about as positive as he will get.

Cubs offense played as bad as can be expected and it took SF 13 innings to beat them. I'm feeling good. Going to be a win tonight.

No. Are you afraid of Matt Moore? This Giant team is smoke & mirrors & mystique. I'm not scared.

I think people are overrating Lackey. He hasn't been good since his injury, and he's no spring chicken.

I wasn't a fan of the signing but this is where he can prove me wrong. I wanted Cueto.

No runs, but I'll take the 23 pitches Moore threw as a good sign.

I have no faith in Lackey. Cubs will need 6+ tonight.

Cubs 7
Giants 5

Hard to believe no cub outside of Dex (1AB) has ever faced Moore.

Work in the count and going to light this guy up before the 5th...
