I don't really think it would have mattered what he did (other than leaving Moore in, and he might not have been able to close it out himself), all of those guys suck. But my view is that you have a bullpen of 6-8 guys. On any given day, some of them are sitting in the bullpen and they aren't good that day. You don't know they aren't good that day until you put them in the game. The more guys you bring in, the more likely you're gonna find a guy who isn't having a good day.

I think yanking his closer after 1 batter wasn't very bright for sure .

On another note, this team would be at home if not for Baez. He is very important to this team. The Cubs try to get "good guys" on their roster; the problem is that many of those "good guys" seem to lack energy. Baez is fearless, and everything he does seems to bring them energy. I can deal with the occasional bone-headed decisions as long as he keeps being the spark plug like this.

Agree 100%. He doesn't seem to be playing scared that's for sure. He's loose as can be and it shows . I'm hoping getting rid of the Giants boogeyman relaxes the rest of the guys and they start hitting like they can next series .

Bochy's plan for that inning sucked. Same as Joe's yesterday.

Unless there's a huge advantageous match-up I always want to start an inning with the reliever who can get all 3 outs.

If he biffs it from there then I begin to the Chinese firedrill to get out of the inning.

I hate when the plan going into an inning is to assign a pitcher to certain batters.

He's been brutal though. He regained the closer job because there was no one else.

Why? I hope they win for my mom's husband. The rest of you I don't care. You cannot tell me there weren't some crybabies ready to leap off buildings yesterday if you listened to the score.

The thing about that though Mike is you can't act like Cubs fans aren't at least a little justified in acting that way. It's been 108 fucking years and their recent playoff history certainly suggests a close loss late in the game tends to send the team into a death spiral. They've proven that on several occasions. Had the White Sox not won in 05, you guys would be the same way . Until the Cubs win the WS, a great deal of their fans are always going to assume every playoff loss ( especially late inning heartbreakers) are a harbinger of doom. Maybe finally winning a series with their own late inning comeback is the start of them learning how to overcome adversity and learning how to win playoff baseball and there won't be as much angst from the fan base .

I see your point.

Yesterday was an example of how the Cubs were better off not getting the "rally killing homer." If Rizzo, or even Zobrist, homers there, I think their odds of winning would have been lower than the way it played out.

It was funny...falling asleep, then waking up, seeing they won and then going back about 10 pages in this thread...it was all "doom and gloom" :)

It was the same for me in Game 3...fell asleep before the 8th and had to catch up on about 40 pages the next morning.

Good. That's what makes the board. If we were going to let someone control content I'd still be friends with bigfan.

I agree that is what makes the board. I don't want CH banned or his contect blocked.

No lie....same here. We went to bed after they went down 5-2....took care of business and was nearly asleep when she got txt from a friend. Went downstairs and watched the final 2 outs.

Is there a thing going on now between Baez and the Giants , Strickland in particular ? After he singled and did the exuberant clapping he said it was because Strickland was staring at him. Strickland is also the one who brushed him back couple nights ago. Seeds of discord for next year.

The two faces of the giants franchise are:
1. a hillbilly dickface who barks at latin players for staring at him.
2. a robotic wasp-y brooks brother model masquerading as a baseball player

why do you think they hate baez?

If they are singling you out, it's because you stand out. Baez stands out because of his exceptional performance as well as his willingness to celebrate his accomplishments. Just makes it all the more fun.

I watched the whole game and figured for sure they were toast, and at best would have to burn Lester, etc.

What a game!

And they need to sign Chapman. Ask Bochy about not having a reliable closer. Damn.

Baez is an intense competitor pure and simple and defensively, he is a savant.

Baez and Contreras both are wound tightly and very demonstrative when they have success. I like their enthusiasm. But if they were on another team, they would both probably get under my skin.

That's exactly why all felt right in my baseball world when Lackey left the Cards for the Cubs. I could go back to fully hating him, rather than just slightly hating him.

The thing about that play is that most fielders would not have stuck with the wild throw as long. He took a risk and made it pay off.

He did fuck up one play I can remember...on the Crawford bomb that missed being a homer by 2 inches, he had Pence nailed at third if he doesn't muff the relay.

The fact that ball doesn't go into centerfield is amazing.

Wild throw? That throw was perfect. That was the only place it could be for a chance to throw Span out.

If the throw was "on the bag," Span is safe.

the throw "worked" because of baez. if that's zobrist at 2nd or MANY other 2Bs the ball is bouncing around the field.
