This year's "little miss sunshine" is the perfect date movie.

Anyone else catch / attach any significance to the exchange regarding the origin of Juno's name in the movie?
When questioned if it's "after the city in Alaska?" she goes on to explain that it's really after Zeus' wife, the queen of the gods.

In Greek mythology Hera was Zeus' wife, while Juno was Jupiter's wife as their counterparts in Roman mythology.

Wouldn't a cynical, wise beyond her years hipster know the correct origin of her name?
So, my wife and I got into this discussion and came up with three possible reasons.

1) It was a factual error by the writer & movie makers, that the fact checkers just flat out missed.

2) It was done purposefully to show the true extent of Juno's naivete?

3) It was Hollywood altering a script because they believe that most Americans would not know that Jupiter was the ruler of the gods, but know that Zeus was.

Juno got scorched in both the Trib and Sun-times today.

DeRegotis saying that NO teenage girl would ever like that kind of music or know anything about the groups from back in the day.

Ebert saying that her vocabulary was way too advanced for her age.

yeah i...agree with them.

I liked Juno and believe it's worth full fare.

Being a pro-life guy I liked the fact that Hollywood, shockingly, turned out a pro-life movie. I also loved the message at the end about loving your spouse even when fire shoots out their ass. Man that's so true. It's hard to love like that. If you're not married yet, you should see this movie. It's a good example of how much work love is. I also enjoyed the very end when they were making sweet music together... touching.

Juno was too smart for her age as the critics point out. But it didn't ruin the movie for me.

Go to dinner and a 7:50 showing of Juno this evening with the wife and two friends. Get to the theater at 7:30. Sold out.

Crystal, allow me to introduce you to what I call the 'Pan's Labyrinth' syndrome. Once the movie is nominated for Oscars and has the 'Buzz', you can forget about seeing it on a Friday or Saturday night.

I'll never forget that Saturday night, when I pulled up at the AMC at 8:30 to see that Pan's frieking Labyrinth was SOLD OUT. And it was SUBTITLED.

Zack, it was subtitled Sunday through Thursday also - before it was nominated.

Saw it last night. Laughed a few times.

If were the writer, I would have developed the Mark-Juno angle a little bit more. Something along the lines of Mark leaving his wife, moving to a downtown loft, hooking up with a few stoner bandmates, Juno hanging at his new place a lot, unloading the baby on Vanessa and then getting stoned at band practices at a downtown loft. Musicwise I would have taken them into QoTSA or Kyuss style tuneage. On Vanessa side of things... I'd send her looking for the baby's father is. Eventually hooked her up with Paulie.

Whoever it was that said this was this year's Little Miss Sunshine just completely lost me. I had to grit my teeth through every cutesy, offbeat quirk and attempted understated wisdom.
