I'll say that IMU may be correct about its usage as a spelled word. I can see how that might be offensive to some. (Although as a someone of German descent I was never offended by "Der Shting".) It's not a word that is really ever spelled out like that. And it probably shouldn't be used in a cute way by Anglos outside of a conversation in Spanish. But of course, the Dodgers are just trying to monetize everything.

Yes, they were the Dragons even when I was in school. Everyone always hated Pekin because they'd have two or three kids who were only on the team to be dirty. They would only beat you if they could get under your skin. They would also always have a crowd full of drunk, scummy parents who would yell the whole game. When I found out they had an offensive mascot until a few years earlier, it wasn't the least bit surprising.

My sister went to the University of Wisconsin. When she came home after her freshman year we got into a conversation about badgers. She asked me if I knew how big a badger was and I replied that I thought it was about like a skunk. She started laughing and said that Bucky the Badger was at the Madison Zoo and it was the size of a five year old child. Incidentally, I think the Badgers are named after a nickname for miners. I'm not even sure badgers are native to Wisconsin.

I may have taken a Spanish class or 2. I've used Rosetta Stone and I have a kid that is in an advanced Spanish class. All of this clearly makes me and expert. In my expert opinion they're both right.
