Get a grip, man. The Cubs are the best team in baseball.

each series is its own separate reality. Have you forgotten 97 wins in 2008?

Sorry Dr. Ken. The only time in my life I've been wrong about a Cubs playoff series was last year against the Cards. I'll be betting the next few games.

And they can be as patient as they want against Hill. He's only going 4 or 5.

I'm tired of worrying about every bad thing that might happen to the Cubs in the playoffs. I'm old. I'm tired. I've done this many times and I don't want to do it any more.

The Cubs are good. Very good. They should win this series and they will. Cubs fans have this issue with wanting them to win 4 games in 1 day. It's 4 of 7. They have great pitching. They will win this.

well, I'll be there for game 5 in the WS if they do. I'll see you there.

If only in my dreams.

You spelled it correctly, but Cachorros is really what the Cubs are called in Spanish.

If I were writing a story about the game in Spanish I would write, "Los Cachorros y Los Dodgers." I wouldn't spell it "Doyers". But if I were talking about the game in Spanish I would certainly say "Doyers". If you said Dah-djers in such a context it would sound stilted like when bernstein uses a textbook pronunciation of a Spanish word in an English sentence.

There are all kinds of Spanish colloquialisms for words in baseball that have no Spanish equivalent. Like home run. A first year Spanish student might say "casa carrera" and people would look at him like they had no idea what he was talking about. Obviously jonrón is an adaptation of home run.

My wife is a fluent in several languages, particularly strong in French. But the first time she went to France when she was in college she was at an ice cream shop and she ordered in exact French, like "Ill have a single scoop of vanilla in a sugar cone, please." Of course, no one actually speaks like a fucking textbook. There was a group of high school girls in the shop and after my wife ordered one of them said, "Si mignon."

 One of my friends is Mexican!

Do you understand how vernacular is created? I guess you and your Mexican friend are right and everyone else is just imagining the usage of "Doyers".

Oh, I'm well aware of the usage of Doyers. That was never disputed.

I'm correctly disputing that it is an accurate "Spanish" pronunciation of Dodgers. It is not.

Good attitude and a realistic one. The Cubs lineup is better and pitching is better, except perhaps when Kershaw pitches and Baez just missed launching one that would have made him the loser in that last game. Kershaw has struggled in several playoff games in the past. He may well have another stinker the next time he pitches, especially after the 6th inning, where he has been mostly awful in the playoffs. Enjoy the ride.

Kershaw's going to pitch 3 out of 7. This means the Dodgers only need to win 1 other game. Kershaw didn't even have a curveball last game. Imagine what being tired will do for his curve and slider. Don't set yourself up for more disappointment. The loss only makes them lose home field advantage. HOW they lost tells a lot more. Were it not for Joe Blanton, everybody else would think it was over too.

Yeah, checked the calendar and Kershaw is scheduled to pitch Game 8.

They lost 1-0 to the best pitcher in baseball.

I mean, if you're going to lose, that's probably the best way to do so. It's not like they threw a 13-0 L up there.

There's no doubt that if it goes 7 Kershaw will pitch in it.

Maybe a desperate inning. But he isn't going to get three starts in here.

I don't think his breaking pitches are short because of fatigue. I heard an L.A. beat writer and he said that he can't get the proper finish on those pitches because his back is still bothering him to some degree. Still, 90% Kershaw is something to deal with.

If Cubs win next two games, he will start game 5. If they then make it to game 7, I would expect him to start that game, too.

Yup. After 2018 he won't be their problem anymore after running him into the ground.

I don't think they'll do that to him, and if they did, I'm not sure how effective he would be.

He pitched 3 times in a 5 game series. Almost guarantees he would in a 7 game series.

But one time was two outs. I don't doubt that they might bring him in in a game 7, but I don't think he's starting or going more than a couple innings at most.

you're missing the point...the Cubs got two hits off a guy that didn't have one of his pitches. A guy who in my opinion didn't even throw that well. Of course he's going to throw game 5 and of course he's going to throw game 7. And he'll be successful. So the Dodgers job is to win one non-Kershaw game. I think they can do that.

So a guy that possibly pitches 2 innings in a Game 7 is guaranteeing a win for his team?

He's not a machine. Plus he has a bad back. They're running him hard already and you think he can do what- cover 12 or 13 innings in four days?

I discount the back. His back would affect his fastball, which it hasn't. You could argue it's effecting location but the Cubs seem to fear the guy. I could see him going 5, much like Madison in 2014. Dude threw 117 in game 5 in '14 if I remember right.

That's exactly what the beat writer I heard- I think on the Score- said, his fastball is normal but his back is obviously bothering him because there is no finish on his breaking pitches. And this guy isn't Bumgarner even if he's healthy. Bumgarner is a big strapping beast who could probably pitch seven innings on back to back days if he had to.

Kershaw isn't pitching 14-16 more innings this series.

He'll start another game and maybe pitch another inning or two.

I don't think that gets them 3 wins.

I'm not sure how a bad back doesn't take MPH off your fastball.

Nobody thought Madison could do it until he did it, including his teammates and manager. I think it's fair to say that Roberts has managed with his wang out so far. I would put nothing past him.

And despite no finish on his breaking pitches and I think, a lack of location on his fastball, he allowed one legit smash to Rizzo. Despite the praise heaped on Baez's hit, and the crowd reacting as though they'd been stuck with a collective cattle prod, that ball wasn't getting out.

Don't be afraid to be right.

Well, we'll see. If I were a Cub fan I wouldn't be too worried about him in a game 7.

Cubs better hope it doesn't get to a game 7. That's no different than a wild card game. Getting there is a victory for an underdog.

Kershaw would be available in Game 7 out of the bullpen but he's not starting on 2 days rest.
