Might be fair, but you'd be missing the forest for the trees. If your two MVP candidates and litany of All-Stars can't produce runs, it's really just grasping at straws to worry about Matt Sczur or Matt Murton.

So, that pretty much invalidates your entire argument. It goes to show that the fringe players you bring don't matter. There's a 50/50 shot as to which one will produce in their limited playoff opportunities.

The problem isn't the 20mm man being on the roster. He's a terrific defensive player, those are the types of guys you throw on the playoff roster, the problem is that he's received 20 PAs in the post season. The Cubs have 6+ months of evidence that Heyward is not a good hitter, time to give someone else those PAs.

I don't think you're alone there. But that gets back into Matches Malone's point about personal catchers. Like I said yesterday, it's a slippery slope. Still, having three real catchers is a real nice luxury, especially when they can all play first and one of them can play the outfield. That's Maddon style.

Matt Murton had a respectable career. I don't want a guy on the playoff roster that hasn't taken a big league at bat in 7 years, but he was a guy that could hit at the big league level.

Lots of dudes were more forgettable than him.
