Are you saying he wouldn't help against all these Dodger lefties???

What are you smoking?

It was a personnel oversight by Theo. They could have kicked the tires in September to see what he looks like.

What kind of hippie bullshit is this?

Heyward and his defense has accomplished what exactly????

Defense only matters if the ball is hit to you. You give up 3-4 AB's for an occasional tough catch?

Jimmy, they're getting their asses kicked and haven't scored a run in 18 innings. Do you really think a career 4A player who has to be in his upper 30's is going to make a difference? You could have a prime Albert Pujols in this lineup and they would have lost the last two games. You're applying overly simplistic solutions to a complex problem.

Why is having a very good RH hitter on the roster a bad idea? I would have loved Murton on this bench or starting for Heyward.

Bring back Micah Hoffpauir and Ryan LaHair to play first.

It just wouldn't make a difference. Do you really think that all the Cubs problems would be solved if they had Matt Murton on the playoff roster?

I think a Murton/DiCaro "merger" could create the ultimate Cub hitter. The power of Red. DiCaro had a youthful athleticism that is unrivaled. The resulting beta male would be the talk of the town- sensitive to the female/bisexual/gay/transgender crowd, big boned, born with Cubbie blue baseball in his veins, a lover of Chicago icons like Garretts popcorn, knowledge of the Metra system and the Chicago sports talk radio scene.

My heart was breaking for you when I read that Cubs prayer, jimmy, but now you post this stupid shit and my sympathy has disappeared.

it's a fair thing to ask why hail caesar isn't on this roster.

Might be fair, but you'd be missing the forest for the trees. If your two MVP candidates and litany of All-Stars can't produce runs, it's really just grasping at straws to worry about Matt Sczur or Matt Murton.

First of all, The thread is about Matt Murton who is one of the most forgettable guys to ever wield a bat in the big leagues. Second, whose spot did you want Szczur to take? Because I assure you they weren't going to leave the $20 million dollar man off the roster.

this is going to sound stupid now, but I wanted Montero left off.

Despite this craziness, I do feel bad for pasta. I mean, God brought him back from the dead only to crush him a few more times. Dude can't catch a break.

So, that pretty much invalidates your entire argument. It goes to show that the fringe players you bring don't matter. There's a 50/50 shot as to which one will produce in their limited playoff opportunities.

The problem isn't the 20mm man being on the roster. He's a terrific defensive player, those are the types of guys you throw on the playoff roster, the problem is that he's received 20 PAs in the post season. The Cubs have 6+ months of evidence that Heyward is not a good hitter, time to give someone else those PAs.

I don't think you're alone there. But that gets back into Matches Malone's point about personal catchers. Like I said yesterday, it's a slippery slope. Still, having three real catchers is a real nice luxury, especially when they can all play first and one of them can play the outfield. That's Maddon style.

Matt Murton had a respectable career. I don't want a guy on the playoff roster that hasn't taken a big league at bat in 7 years, but he was a guy that could hit at the big league level.

Lots of dudes were more forgettable than him.
