368 days ago he pitched 7.1 shutout innings against he Cubs. Better or the same to what people have been blowing Kershaw and Rich Hill for.

He's pitched in a couple of World Series, has two rings. Nobody here is saying that the Dodgers are going to forfeit because John Lackey has some post season innings under his belt. Lackey is still a good MLB pitcher, who because of his experience won't be overwhelmed by the moment.

That's the point.

It's a bad point. I'll take talent over "experience." It's very overrated.

I hope he does well tonight, and he's capable of it, but his experience means very little... especially since a lot of it is bad.

I'm comforted to know that when he gets lit up tonight, he'll have the experience to know how to deal with it emotionally.

He does better when they take his blinders off.

Nowhere above do I state that I'd rather have experience over talent. Nowhere. Sure I'd much rather have say, Chris Sale pitching tonight for the Cubs as opposed to Lackey. But given two pitchers with comparable talent, I'd rather have the one with experience.

Experience helps, in most every walk of life. Bobo Newsome has a ton of experience, but I don't want him pitching because he's dead. Lackey is still a good MLB pitcher. If the Cubs have to start a good MLB pitcher tonight, I'd rather they start a good one with Lackey's experience, as opposed to one with little or no experience.

So leash, if you're in a plane and there are two pilots with similar skills in the cockpit, you'd be ambivalent to whether the guy at the yoke has landed 40,000 planes or 2? I doubt it.

Go Cubs

Come on now Doc Ken, you carried the flag up the hill in the 7-8 innings of game 4 vs the Giants.

Lackey pitching well tonight is far more likely than the comeback against the Giants. FOCUS

Go Cubs

These guys have all pitched thousands of baseball games in their lives. The only difference now is it's the playoffs. The better question would be whether I'd rather have a pilot who has more experience flying a plan with more people watching in a situation where there are a lot of people watching. My answer would be that I don't really care - I'd just want the better pilot.

We can agree to disagree, as I don't think experience is completely without value... I just think it's often greatly overstated and used lazily by MANY.

Go Cubs

Again, if Cubs don't score in first inning, they will lose the game. The team cannot mentally handle the top of the lineup not producing against a left handed pitcher.

No trolling. It is a good test of leash's belief as there is a good pitcher with much experience facing a pitcher with top talent but no experience.

While Baez has been hot, he's still a hacker. 5 is probably too high for him.

Z should be in the 2 hole, Bryant 3, Rizzo 4, Castillo 5, Baez 6, Russell 7, Heyward 8.

Except he isn't much of a hacker any longer. His strikeout rate is way down, and he has been seeing MANY pitches per PA.

Baez is the contact / power threat that forces Bryant and Rizzo to see more strikes.

It also stretches out the lineup even during the slump...as the pitcher would never have "two easier outs" in a row.

Well, the best replacement option was just locked down by the Chicago White Sox. So...no need for a quick trigger.

Maddon has shown to be a good manager. But maybe what makes the Cubs such a great regular season team makes things more difficult during short, pressure-filled playoff series.

Do you think he'd want a switch hitter in the 4 hole for some reason? That's all I can figure but have nothing to prove or disprove the notion.

The Cubs have only lost two Game 4's since 1989. Only two. In 27 years!

Cubs are a lock tonight.

You are letting the overall suckage of the Cubs in the postseason to cloud your thought process. Baez is still the 7th best hitter on the team, at best. He should never be in the 4 hole unless Maddon has the rest of the bench starting.

Without looking, I don't believe the Dodgers are a very split dependent bullpen. I think they're more focused on roles...versus having 1-2 LOOGY and a drop down sinker ball righty. So I don't think Maddon is too worried about attempting to have Roberts 'waste' pitchers during pivotal mid to late game moments.

I'm wondering if you have.

In 450 PA this season, he had 108 K's and 15 walks. That is not a contact hitter.

NLDS:

Game 1, 3 PA, 9 Pitches
Game 2, 4 PA, 13 Pitches
Game 3, 6 PA, 26 Pitches
Game 4, 4 PA, 11 Pitches

NLCS:

Game 1, 4 PA, 11 Pitches
Game 2, 3 PA, 9 Pitches
Game 3, 4 PA, 14 Pitches

Average pitches per PA: 3.3

That is not patience. He is still an aggressive swinger. He is not protecting Rizzo and Bryant in the lineup.

couldn't say it better myself. I still don't like Baez, and this rush to sainthood for him is really going to look dumb next season. Love the glove, kinda like the moxie, not much else.

Sounds like Kershaw is throwing game 6, so Roberts is giving the Cubs a chance to go home up 3-2. Get your heads out of your ass and play some ball.

He finished the season very strongly when it came to plate discipline.

He will never walk 70 times in a season. But he has shown he can work counts when needed.

As it relates to protecting Rizzo...Baez has a .900 OPS this postseason and a .873 postseason OPS overall. The dude performs in big games.
