Actually, thinking about it, I'm underselling how bad his thought is.

A good portion of the Cub players absolutely know and care to some extent about the history. I'd guess the majority. They're professional athletes. They are looking for any edge, any thought to motivate them. Hell, Dick Butkus used to make up shit to motivate him. Jordan, quite naturally, held a high school grudge for 25 years.

There's no question those guys walk out to "their office" in June and see 40k fans out there and think to themselves what it would be like here in a NLCS or World Series. They aren't doing it for the fans. But that doesn't mean that fans can't motivate them. History can motivate them. Among other things.

In summary, that article should be humped by a cow in heat.

I actually think bernstein has it absolutely backward. There is no value in winning the Pennant except in so much as fans care about it. If there were no fans the ability to hit a home run or pitch a shutout would mean nothing at all.

He just wants to suck the joy out of being a fan while sucking the dongs of ownership and Theo. The entire concept of professional sports exists because of the fan base. And more than any other American sport, history matters a great deal. We all know that history will judge the management team and players that bring a World Series to Cub fandom with great reverence.

Look at the accolades throw at the Blackhawks, an equally inept franchise that has been brought back from the dead.

That is a very hard read. His point is correct in a sense. But his Microsoft Word thesaurus needs to be disabled. The flow was horrible.

It's obvious the organization agrees with you as they invite old players to the game and sell Wrigley Field t shirts.

Also, Theo is very open about his knowledge and appreciation of the history of the game

I believe Cubs management hands out Cubs handbooks to all Spring Training invitees detailing Cubs history along with Cubs player development philosophies.

Yeah. Terry's voice does sound a little different. Like he's talking with something in his mouth.

Goff is getting all slurpy. His voice is getting real low. Almost like he's about to tear up. But Goff is the type that tears up easily. Bernstein, as predicted, shows no affection what so ever.

Yep, sure sounds like it. Guessing he had some type of cancer somewhere in either his jaw/mouth.

Terry definitely got emotional. Something about not wanting it to happen this year. Because the Cubs are so good, or because this is his final year at the Score?

I heard it as he did not have the year he wanted to have. As in the malady he had was much worse than thought at first.

Guessing probably because he was expecting this to be his last year.

He starting to sound a little better or I'm just getting used to it.

Maybe he just needed to warm up.

Tried to give it a listen. The Bernstein narrative is too much. He has to go.

This thread is as good as anywhere I guess... There is a lot of dismissing of Cleveland being broadcast today. Hosts, guests as well as websites. I am amazed the Indians were ever able to make it to the series. They probably shouldn't show up and play.

I would think there may be less optimism if Chicago were facing Boston or Toronto...and Cleveland quickly dispatched both. Something has to give.

You're right. Now he sounds like his same old self. Maybe Dan forgot to stick his hand up his back when the show started. Now all is well.

Right. It's like all of these hosts forget what they thought when the Dodgers had a 2-1 lead over the Cubs and the Cubs weren't hitting. That "Baseball is hard". That anything can happen in a short series. Now, before the series starts, it's "This is gonna be easy". Man, these guys forget the baseball lesson in just 5 days.

Vegas does have the Cubs as -230 for the series. However, that's higher then it should be because they know they're gonna get a lot of Cubs money.
