In years in which the Sox were decidedly better than the Cubs Cubs fans clung to the attendance issue as a means of demonstrating superiority.

You're touching on the thing that disturbs me, particularly with regard to some of these celebrity Cub "fans". There's the promotion of the idea that only their interest makes the Cubs significant. And that ties into the attendance talk. I don't question Bill Murray's bona fides as a Cub fan, but he does manage to project this feeling that, "Well, I'm here, now the game can start."

Bill Murray wasn't at Sox playoff games like Cusack, or wearing a Sox hat on TV like Vedder. He gets points for not being a phony.

Yeah that's true. I never remember any Sox fans that were celebrities growing up. Mostly local politicians. 05 happened and they came out of the woodwork. It rang hollow to see that.

Oh Boo fucking Hoo. IF the Cubs don't win, you'll have yourselves a nice laugh, no doubt. But, this is ridiculous....You know what? Right now, they don't fucking count. Get over yourself.

I guess the White Sox don’t count

I realize everyone is super excited about the Cubs being in the World Series for the first time since 1945, with the chance to win it for the first time since 1908. But you’d think folks would remember that it’s just the Cubs — and not Chicago as a whole — who have been away from the Fall Classic for so long.

I know their recent struggles makes it seem like a long, long time ago, but the White Sox won the World Series in 2005. They were in the World Series in 1959 too. You wouldn’t know that, though, if you looked at some prominent media outlets:

I understand the impulse to tell the “a whole city is coming together!” story every time stuff like this happens, but there are a lot of White Sox fans in Chicago. A good number of them don’t give a crap about the Cubs. Many even resent them for being the glory franchise in the city in the eyes of many. They certainly don’t feel like there’s a championship drought afoot, and I imagine they’re somewhat cranky about having their team’s glory plastered over like this.

The article has tweets that mention this being the first World Series in Chicago in 71 years.

It's wrong and lazy.

This is actually the 3rd World Series Chicago has seen in the last 71 years.

Just the author. Such a hot take.

It reeks of an inferiority complex.

He might as well be jumping up and down on Waveland Ave with a Sox hat on yelling "Pay attention to me!"

jesus, dude, cut it with the rage. leash trolls, but he admits he's kidding and he's hysterical, but this is rage....i'm sure some sox fans have been d-bags to you in the past, but dude...enjoy the world series.

i'm fine with the sox being second fiddle. wasn't always that way, may change in the future, who knows. in all honesty, i think only a few teams have a national presence anyways. whatevs.

Come on, Francis. That was a weak, half-hearted attempt.
I am sure you can do better than that!
