I truly hope Bernstein gets mugged and beaten bloody. In a city with a lot of jackasses
he is number one.
What a pathetic human being. Fuck him.

Not reading 5 pages. Did anyone mention Terry sounding a little "strokey?" He seemed to have a bit of a slur.

I read the thread and listened some. To be serious, Dan Bernstein - as always - is just a garbage human being. Obviously, I'm not religious, but decorating graves is - at worst - a waste of time and - at best - a psychological moment of joy for those who cope with the loss of loved ones. And it impacts no one except those who partake. I've run out of adjectives. He's just a piece of shit.

Terry did not have a stroke.

I shut it off at that point. Here you people trying to deal with loss and maintain a connection to the past, and this jag ridicules it.

A few minutes earlier, a caller announced, "I'm from Cleveland," and Bernstein replies with a smugly disinterested "So what?" No, your emotional investment in your city and your team does not matter....except when Bernstein does it. Last week, he was referring to the Cubs as "we."

This was the quote that got me. I know he wants to believe that because that is basically the entire point of that mess.

But, it's not true. They do inherit "some shared history". The same way Presidents that live in the White House inherit some shared history or radio hosts that take over a drivetime slot at a sports station inherit some shared history.

It may not mean much to the players on the field or it may mean a great deal. But, like it or not, Anthony Rizzo shares some history with Ernie Banks and Mark Grace and Larry Biittner because they played the same position in the same uniform on the same field.

I think it's 1000 words of garbage for Dan Bernstein to say that no Cub players care about the past or the fans. Some probably don't give a shit. Some may think it is very cool. He doesn't know. He just wants to believe it.

isn't that why (or the main reason why) Epstein came here--the challenge?

His Hoyer interview provided a huge WYC. Dan asked Hoyer if putting Schwarber on the roster was, more than anything, a symbolic gesture to reward his hard work. Jed redponded with,"We aren't putting him on the roster unless we think he can hit some home runs and help us win a championship." He even said that any addition of Schwarber would have zero to do with sentimentality.

ALL THAT MATTERS IS CHAMPIONSHIPS, DAN. DON'T ASK DUMB QUESTIONS.

Yeah all excited fan boy Dan actually asked if it was a "prize" for Kyle.

here's the thing...the Cubs could have some proprietary things that put them a leg up...Dan just doesn't know what they are...

so he flies back to banal things that every team does and sells it as the Cubs being smarter. Even though on that stuff they're not. That's my take...

As if the Cubs are the only team that shifts. EVERY. FUCKING. TEAM. USES. SHIFTS. It's not just random for everyone but the Cubs either. The thing is though, as the data is coming in and the sample is growing, it's becoming clear that all of these radical shifts are actually doing very little, if anything, to reduce BABIP.

Right, the Cubs shifted the least amount of times in MLB. Yet their defense was one of the best. Cubs cracked the code. Key is to have good defenders on your team. Genius discovery, I know.

My theory earlier this year was Cubs' defense making pitchers look a lot better.

Overall BABIP, yes. On pulled grounders, however, the overall BABIP is down 13 points to .183 since, I think, 2011. Similarly, the BABIP on opposite-handed grounders is up to .379 from .255. However, if you have enough data (and enough samples), there will be a "break even" point, at which it becomes sensible to shift on a hitter to their pull side and open yourself up to the oppo-grounder, because of the hitter's overall tendencies.

I have stopped listening to them almost completely. I listen sometimes if I am working from home and am in the car between 1 and 3 running errands. Otherwise I listen to either music, MLB network radio, or after 3 it is Bomani Jones on the ESPN XM feed.

Yeah one of those guys calling about the grave thing sounded pretty offended when Bernstein scoffed at him. I though the guy was going to go off on him and spout anti-Semitic slurs like that Nation of Islam guy did when Dan was making fun of Tony Snell's hair.

Dan's first sentence has been nagging at me all day:
Quote:
You get to have this because it really isn’t yours.

If it's not really mine then why do I get to have experience/emotion/moment?

This portion of the sentence is driving my brain insane. It's so jagged. A jumble of words. How could his editor (is there an editor) believe there shouldn't be a tighter sentence?

What's not to like?

It's a one-way street which radiates emotion (as one-way streets are wont to do), and it is also a relationship between both ends of the one way street. There's plenty of absurdity inherent in that.

No, there is no editor, as was apparent when Tim Baffoe referred to sympathizing with one's kidnapper as "Helsinki syndrome," which is actually when you sympathize with your kidnapper and your kidnapper is Teemu Selanne.

I find it hard to believe that was not deliberate, but I don't really know his whole deal. Does he ever traffic in absurdism?
