Quote:
I've always admired the passion that Banks and Santo had for the Cubs. They were both involved with the organization for most of their lives. Both passed away in recent years. I'm sure there will be many news stories about how they missed out on the Cubs making the World Series.

It certainly would have been great television to see Banks and Santo being interviewed after the game. While many of us loved those players, our relationship with them was not the same as how we enjoyed the Cubs with our friends, co-workers and relatives. My first thoughts when the game ended were not elation. Instead, I thought about the family and friends that I've enjoyed Cub games since LBJ was president.

My brother passed away over a year ago. He is the primary reason that I became a Cub fan when most of my family, friends and neighbors on the Southside were Sox fans. It's not just that I wanted him to experience a World Series. I would want him to experience this moment - with me.

Bernstein: No. Who gives a shit about the legless bastard? And I'm still pissed that Tom Rickets had to pay for Ernie's funeral. That was a lot of money!!!!

I have a lot of regrets about how long this took. I'm sad Ron is dead, I'm sad Ernie is dead, I'm sad 720 lost the rights, I'm sad Wrigley Field was turned into a jumbotron-and-billboard-ridden hellscape in the name of "revenue streams," I'm sad we had to let the Ted Cruz lookalike run roughshod over a neighborhood in the name of "revenue streams," and I'm sad that Senor has traded in his wannabe-edgy White Sox for the Cubs because of his camp-counselor crush on the old Red Sox GM and refashioned his years of plain old Cubs hate into nuanced, discriminating wrong-Cubs-fan hate. We broke a shit-ton of eggs to make this omelette.

It would have been cool to hear Harry or Vince & Lou or Jack call a "Cubs win the pennant!" moment.

In all seriousness, yes, of course it would have been great to see all those guys enjoying this.

They were all terrific in their own way but Harry & Ron were my favorites.

Ron was a genuine, selfless and sincere gentleman.

If they were alive the Cubs may not be in the World Series. Butterfly Effect.

Be glad they are dead.

As dead as the 2017 White Sox.

You are stuck on the Buck call. I get it. That was a fun listen.

I would have loved to hear McCarver's two cents right after the call.

According to Walt Whitman, there really is no death.
