Tomlin for sure. But Jake? I know Maddon has to win Game 6 before the Cubs can play Game 7, but I do not believe he can use Chapman for 6-8 outs tonite and then expect him to be effective for 3-4 outs tomorrow. At best you would probably hope that Chapman can cover 8 outs between these two games.

Maddon can't afford to let Arrieta walk the bases full in a one run game in the fourth or fifth inning. He's gonna be on a short leash by necessity. That's my point. In the regular season you'd let him go and maybe get out of it himself. It's going to be hard to do that tonight.

Both pitchers will have incredibly short leashes. Issue is the Indians have the horses in the BP to close out the game while Cubs BP is banged up.

The difference is that I suspect Francona is planning to pull Tomlin early the way he did on Friday night, regardless of how he looks. With Arrieta it's probably going to depend on what he's doing out there.

Dumb question: why isn't Hendricks going tonight?

Before the series started Maddon set Arietta as number two rather than Hendricks for some reason.

I'd say 5 is the most for Tomlin regardless. The Cubs need to get to him for 2 or 3 and let Francona scramble a bit to fill out the rest .

He obviously wanted Hendricks at home where he has been nearly unbeatable.

At this point you have to win both games. Better to keep everyone on normal rest.

I'd be surprised if Tomlin goes more than 3.

My fear is we already got our 1 good start out of Jake and he'll revert to his usual Lackeyesque stat line tonight . 5IP 3 runs , 3 hits, 3 walks. I did hear where having West behind the plate is advantage Cubs as he doesn't tend to give borderline pitches to the the pitcher and Tonkin lives on the corners more than Jake .

True

The series would be over if he had traded for Miller.

I'm sure Schwarber will be the direct cause for them winning several more in the future so it is an appropriate tradeoff

I think when you're down to an elimination game, everybody is available.

I expect Maddon to stay the course until at least the second part of a game 7. He previously said he has a bullpen and they work fine in the way they are used. I would not expect him to put an unrested pitcher in as a gamble.

how does Miller help them hit, exactly? They've scored 0,0, and 2 runs in the losses. This is quite the troll.

Also, if the Cubs trade for Miller they would be playing the Red Sox or the Blue Jays right now, not the Indians.

Barring a collapse by the Indians wouldn't that have been better?

Maddon sounded like he might hit Schwarber in the 2 hole.

Maddon himself said it on Goff and Spiegs.

They asked if it was possible and he said yes. I didn't think he confirmed it.
