Maddon can't afford to let Arrieta walk the bases full in a one run game in the fourth or fifth inning. He's gonna be on a short leash by necessity. That's my point. In the regular season you'd let him go and maybe get out of it himself. It's going to be hard to do that tonight.

Both pitchers will have incredibly short leashes. Issue is the Indians have the horses in the BP to close out the game while Cubs BP is banged up.

The difference is that I suspect Francona is planning to pull Tomlin early the way he did on Friday night, regardless of how he looks. With Arrieta it's probably going to depend on what he's doing out there.

I'd be surprised if Tomlin goes more than 3.

My fear is we already got our 1 good start out of Jake and he'll revert to his usual Lackeyesque stat line tonight . 5IP 3 runs , 3 hits, 3 walks. I did hear where having West behind the plate is advantage Cubs as he doesn't tend to give borderline pitches to the the pitcher and Tonkin lives on the corners more than Jake .

I expect Maddon to stay the course until at least the second part of a game 7. He previously said he has a bullpen and they work fine in the way they are used. I would not expect him to put an unrested pitcher in as a gamble.
