They asked him something about the intensity of the game after it was 6-6, paraphrasing, he said something like "yeah when we were up early I had friends texting me congrats and I was like man fuck you"

Someone said it earlier...I think Mr. Reason...that if the Cubs won last night it would be in spite of Maddon's decisions, not because of them.

I still feel that way.

The players were the heroes, and they deserve all the credit. Merlot Joe can drink the wine that they put on the table for him.

Oh and.

:D :D :D :D out of :D :D :D :D

For the series.

This will be made into a movie.

I was confident the Cubs would win their division in 2016 and win 100 or more games and be a true contender for a title. But goofy things can happen, like pulling Hendricks after just 4 2/3 innings when he is pitching brilliantly, or putting an overused Chapman into the game, that can derail a team. But they won and it may well be just the first of several, in the next 5-6 years. Many of the best players have yet to reach their prime.

It's not that he could have won in year one but it certainly could have been done without tanking. Don't give up on that. You are correct and that should never be accepted by a fanbase before a season starts.

I think the White Sox have won 15 more games while trying to contend than the Cubs did while tanking.

Irrelevant. The Sox doing it wrong doesn't mean the Cubs could not do it well.

For fuck's sake, they tried to sell you that the cupboard was bare and yet there were two guys in key roles yesterday who were there before day 1. Rizzo was acquired on Day 1. That is 3/8 of a championship starting lineup in place before the first cup of coffee in the morning.

Exactly! I can't recall a manager being as bad as Maddon was in the WS and half the playoffs.

Same, but maybe in a few days. I did not read or participate in any Cubs discussion for the entire game...social media, text or otherwise.

Theo takes over in 2011. Cubs tank starting in 2012. That first year of tank results in Kris Bryant.

Bryant, has a career WAR of 13.6 at this point in his career. The rest of that first round class in aggregate has a WAR of 8.2.

I'm sure the Cubs would be in just as good a place in 2016 had they won 78 games in 2012 and drafted in the middle of the first round.
