I've considered deleting/deactivating my Facebook account numerous times. Unfortunately they've done a great job of "locking me in" with auto-sign ins on websites and serving as a free photo cloud service.

Obviously there are alternatives to both of those features, but I'm a lazy American.

Speaking of sociopaths, the widespread growth of social media over the years has now made people without an account the minority. I know of some companies who will raise their hiring eyebrows at candidates who don't have a social media presence. Kind of a "what are you hiding?" mentality.
