Greatest? No.

One of the most historically significant? Easily.

I like this. You earned it today. You can't troll me.

Maybe every team they face will have crippling injuries again next year as well.

Okay. It certainly would've been over sooner if Schwarber had been traded for Miller .

so crippling, indeed, that they defeated both the BoSox and Blue Jays.

stick with variance. It's a winner.

It's appropriate that 2016 has a 6 right there as a reminder of the losses in this playoff.

They were that good. I had the Indians as WS winners in July before two of their top three pitchers went down.

This isn't an argument you want to battle on.

It's appropriate that 2016 has a 6 right there as a reminder of how many more losses than wins Jerry's kids had.

Fixed.

so, the Blue Jays sucked even harder? BoSox, best team in the AL for a while, sucked too? Use a word like crippled, be prepared to explain how dominant the AL really is for the crippled team to beat the two best AL challengers.

Cripples can run marathons.

They relied on two starting pitchers with 4+ ERAs throughout the playoffs. The started a guy with under 20 inning of MLB experience to start a close out game. Do you want further explanation.

Leave this to people who know what they are doing. You have a #1 sitting right there for you but you go with the zero. True craftsmanship.

In that case, 2005 is twice as good!

And so the hagiography begins. The epic professional-managerial class narcissism lying at the heart of post-1984 Cub fandom demands that Cub fans exaggerate the greatness of their team's victory over a hobbled Cleveland squad because they cannot withstand the trauma of confronting the franchise's--and, implicitly, their own--ordinariness. It's Red Sox Syndrome redux.

the comparison to Red Sox fans is completely valid. Like Cub fans, Red Sox fans once embraced a kind of warped, inverted narcissism by reveling in their tradition of futility. Shortly after winning the 2004 series, though, they were forced to create a new mythology for themselves--which they attempted to do by making claims about the unique and historic nature of their victory.

Agreed. Very hagiographic. Steeped in hagiography.

Enjoy this moment, Leash. I'm not going to rain on your parade. There will be plenty of time to dissect the Cub franchise's unique-non-uniqueness and the frail inner lives of Cub fans in the months and years to come. Congratulations!
