Thomas said Knicks will inquire about trading for Kidd
Wednesday, Jan 30, 2008 2:34 pm EST

A day after saying he had "no superstars," New York Knicks coach Isiah Thomas said he will ask the New Jersey Nets what it would take to land point guard Jason Kidd.

The Nets have been forever looking for a big center, and Eddy Curry could be involved in a potential deal, possibly along with Renaldo Balkman, whom the Nets like. It's a longshot Nets president Rod Thorn would deal with the Knicks, other than to raise the bidding.

"I think our business is to find out," Thomas said. "When players are on the market, you try to find out. You have to be interested. You have to look."

The Knicks don't appear to have much of a plan, seemingly just interested in acquiring talent, and not worrying about chemistry, but, in this case, I hope the Bulls are doing the same thing.

I really doubt the Nets would trade Kidd to the Knicks. It would piss him off, they dont have enough assets, and the Nets and Kidd seem to be on good terms, I think they will send him out of the conference to LA, Dallas, Denver, but alot of people seem to think Cleveland and Bron is pushing to make it happen.

In this proposed 3 way deal, I'm not sure if I were the Blazers I would want to give up Jarrett Jack, Channing Frye and Outlaw for Brandon Bass and Devin Harris. I guess Harris is pretty intriguing and they could use a PG though

Yeah I saw that too, Im not sure if I would do it if I was portland, but it makes sense for Dallas and NJ, and Harris probably has a higher ceiling than anyone they are giving up and Bass would fit in very well with that team.

Actually this deal doesn't look that bad for Portland. Bass is a high energy guy and would give some good minutes off the bench. Harris is the point guard they need and is young enough to be around for the resurgence. He's also taken that proverbial step up this year. He does need to cut down his turnovers though. His deal actually is not that bad either considering, he's locked in for 5 years at 42 M. Not bad for a good starting PG in the league. (Considering I'd rather have him over Hinrich who's in the 10M range - he's a steal)

Travis Outlaw would be the biggest loss. Jack and Frye are realistically good bench guys for them though Frye would be more valuable for the half court set team. Jack to me is a permanent 2nd guy off the bench who can play both guard slot.
