Renteria should hire David Ross to be a bench coach.

True but he would have tried. The Sox will improve just because he isn't there.

Not only would he have tried, he would have succeeded.

Ventura was a terrible hire. I just can't believe they kept him 4 damn seasons.

2 contracts for that guy...and they did everything in their PR powers to try to make it acceptable to sign him to a third

Fuck this moribund franchise .

That is a really sensible post. If they could move to Vegas, they should. The Cubs are turning most kids into Cubs fans with the way they are playing and the payroll will go way up once the new TV deal is in place. It will soon be as if there is one major market team in town and one small market one. The difference in attendance in the next several years will just become greater and greater.

No pressure on the Sox FO. They will continue to operate in the dysfunctional half-assed approach they have for years. Their bottom line is healthy and that's all that matters.

It should put more pressure on the Bears now that they have the longest time with no championships in the city

honestly when i read this thread title i read it as "does this put pressure on the sox? FUCK OFF!" and this was fortified by me going to google and searching on "FO Acronym" and getting the following right atop the results page in big letters:

FO
FO means "F*** Off" So now you know - FO means "F*** Off" - don't thank us. YW! What does FO mean? FO is an acronym, abbreviation or slang word that is explained above where the FO definition is given

TLDR = i think your topic answers it's own question, assuming that the question mark came three keystrokes too late =D

I think the Bears try their asses off to win. They just literally have no idea how to win.

The Sox could've won the past few season. But Jerry is too cheap.

The Sox aren't as far away as it seems. The difference between the Sox and Cubs isn't in the core guys. The tandems of Eaton/Abreu and Rizzo/Bryant should each give you somewhere around 10 WAR between them. The difference is in free agent spending. The Sox signed Jackson, Lawrie, and Latos while the Cubs got Fowler, Zobrist, and Lester.

I love how you leave the most expensive free agent out of your post, as Heyward would not help your argument. You also omitted Lackey. But make no mistake, it is the core of Rizzo, Bryant, Baez, Contreras, Russell, Almora and Schwarber that will continue to drive the big blue train. Pitchers like Arrieta and Hendricks who were obtained in trade also played big roles. You may want to believe that free agency was a huge difference, but the fact is, the bulk of the team was obtained through the draft or trades.

 I don't think adding Heyward and Lackey changes anything. A huge percentage of this team's production was from free agents.

Well, you can, but I'm not sure how you guys would know the difference.

Tough situation because you have two great starters (one an actual ACE) and that's such a huge part of building a winner but it seems the cupboard is so bare they'll never be able to put enough around them.

I'll say this. Chris Sale and Quintana will never have more combined value in a trade than this off season. Good contracts, no good FA starters.

Trump needs to put together an ownership group to buy the team, Cuban will NOT be part of it.
Steve Wynn, the Bannon, that gay guy tech wizard from Cali, Pete Rose and, of course me and other silent money.
We ditch the city and Statist Springfield pols and move team to open area burb near population zones. Land Beyond O'Hare.
Casino/Stadium/Hotel/tourist park with a minimalist small (28K seats) stadium. With further 8K standing room. Cheap no frills throwback Stadio which reminds of Minor League or Spring training vibe.
Trump Sox Stadio. Batting helmets painted to mimic Trump Hair.
It'll be great.
