It was a great game because of the way it ended. If the Cubs lose that game it would have been 2003 on steroids for me. I may have tried to murder Chapman and Maddon too.

The greatest game is probably the Game 7 between Atlanta and Minnesota, but this one is right up there.

Ive watched the replay of the Zobrist double in the 10th a dozen times and I'm still expecting them to stab it and throw him out. It still hasn't sunk in that its over and they won. That it cant be taken away now. Its unreal.

Another classic, with a different kind of drama, was the David Freese game (Game 6 of the 2011 WS between St. Louis and Texas).

For me, last night had too many poor plays (Davis's throw on tag up by Bryant, the 2-run wild pitch, Baez errors, Baez bunt, etc.) to be considered the best game (vs games where there were great plays). For drama, though, it's up there.

Thinking back over last night I think the thing that makes me the happiest is watching the joy in my 6th grade daughter as she has taken all this in. She has been captivated by the Cubs this season. Last night she fell asleep when the score was 6-3. When they gave up the 3 run HR the thing that pissed me off the most was the thought of having to tell her in the morning that the Cubs blew the lead and lost the World Series. So when they took the lead back I woke her up and let her watch the last inning. Seeing the joy on her face when Rizzo caught the last our was priceless

6th grade? That's old enough to let her stay up for the entire thing? Should have never sent her to bed. Yeah, she'd be dragging in school. But I was up late for the big games by 6th grade. I turned out OK (Insert your joke).

I didn't send her to bed. She fell asleep on her own.

Was listening to the national shows since it's all we got here. They were all talking about the game rather being cub - centric.

Let me tell you, you dont want to see this game again or talk about the moves. I cannot believe how we won. It was like the cubs wanted to give it away not just once but twice.

But I am glad we won. The end is all we should care about. But i have no desire to relive this game unless it's viewing the last out.

I agree on the sloppy play assessment, but there are many outfielders that don't throw Bryant out there. It was shallow, sure .but that guy runs hard and is fast as hell.

Of course I disagree. This is just the euphoria of a really good game that had a positive ending for a feel good story.

If that was the best baseball game in history then baseball kind of sucks. Kluber was bad. Miller was bad. Chapman was bad. Maddon was horrible. Two runs scored on a wild pitch. The Cubs had a lot of bad fielding plays.

It was exciting because the Cubs won it all and it was a close game that had a few swings.

If that EXACT game was played by the Diamondbacks and Blue Jays we aren't even saying it was a good game.

I had never heard the term golden pitch before, but this game had 2 of them. Counting them, 40 of them have happened in major league history. This is a pitch where it can win the world series for either team. Thankfully Montgomery induced a ground out that won the game. But a homerun would have also ended the world series.

I guess greatest means different things. If you're talking just excellence and skill and discounting drama and suspense

And your last sentence is ridiculous. Amy extra inning see saw game like that any level of baseball is a good game. It was Game 7 of the World Series.

Anyway, I don't know of its the greatest but its probably in the conversation for top 10 in the modern era


The attempted shot at baseball is hilarious. Football games full of mistakes are glorified every year. If the game was a perfectly played 1-0 game many (including you probably) would call it boring.
