Right, but I'm not arguing differently. I don't think the Cubs were "clearly better" than any other team or that, in professional baseball, there is ever a clear-cut team who is "better." I don't think it really matters. The WS champion is the WS champion.

My only issue is with people who think that a World Series title completely resolved the question of who is the best team. It doesn't, but who cares?

And I made the same point about the Sox the day Bernstein said they were "lucky" or whatever dumb statement he made.

It's funny because we all know each others' allegiance, so I'm seen as a "jealous Sox fan", but none of my posts on the topic have been in the pursuit of diminishing the Cubs' achievement. Every team starts the season with the same goal (except the Reds, Brewers, and Braves  ). They're all playing for the same thing. The Cubs are the one that accomplished it. I'd say that alone makes them the "best team". And it doesn't need to be considered any further. I have no problem defining the ""best team" as the one that wins the title, in any sport. But if you want to ask if they played this series 100 times do the Cubs win more than half the time, well, I'm not sure.

Right. We're in complete agreement... the problem comes in when people say "World Series championship or bust" for a GM when that's a very black-and-white way of looking at it. What if the Cubs lost Wednesday and Theo's contract was up? Are we really saying we wouldn't extend him because he didn't win a World Series? That's completely ridiculous, and you know it is. Educate your fellow Sox fans.

Darkside said if the Cubs won the World Series this year that Theo would get double the money he would otherwise. Scooter agreed with him.

I don't think you are a jealous Sox fan, you are like a lot of my friends who are Sox fans..you've laughed at the Cubs for so long and you were always right..you're in " I can't believe those losers pulled it off" mode...I do think you will be a jealous Sox fan soon though, this team is young and talented and should win multiple rings.

If both teams were healthy and playing at the top of their game, who do you think wins?

Okay
Cleveland had a lot of injuries to deal with and they were very important people.

The Cubs played the Reds and Brewers 38 times. Hence it's a poor comparison.

Without their best power hitter

Really? Bryant played every game.

Anyway, the Indians were without their best player for most of the season and didn't have their 2 and 3 starters in the postseason.

I think Lindor may have passed where Brantley peaked

Well, I wouldn't say they choked. The Cubs pitching was just in better shape when it came down to the end. And that horrible Cleveland outfield play isn't choking, that's just who those guys are.

First you tell me I'm wrong then you tell me I'm right immediately after.

I agree with you that Cleveland didn't choke. I don't agree that the Cubs are "just plain better". A ball bounces a different way and you're crying and not saying that. There's no evidence that the Cubs are definitively better. They won. Isn't that enough? Now all Chicago baseball fans have celebrated a World Series victory. Welcome to the club.

Granted it was signed prior to winning the World Series, but he did more than double his previous contract.

They said it would double from what he would otherwise get. I think they both called me stupid for saying they were wrong.

and a defensive specialist hit the big one to win it...weird one.
