Hitting an HR in game 7 of the WS where the team ends up winning by 1 run is pretty awesome. Good for him.

And his line to Rizzo in the 6th was funny.

Rizzo: I'm an emotional wreck right now.

Ross: It's only gonna get worse. Wait until we get to the 9th.

This is the Cubbiest thread that ever Cubbed.

You have no high ground to mock statues after this thread.

Remember when nobody could understand why Ross was even making the trip from Mesa? Lester didn't earn a personal catcher and Ross sucked balls.

I remember.

He sucked last year. His hitting picked up considerably in 2016.

He hit a homerun in Game 7 of the World Series too.

Ross was awful batting in 2015, but his defense and leadership made him valuable to some degree. Lester was the Ace of 2016 and Ross gets credit for his success to some degree and his batting improved significantly, especially HR's. He was easy to like and root for.

Where does Ross rank in the history of Cub catchers?

I rank him somewhere between Tim Blackwell and John Boccabella.

Below Mitterwald but above Doug Rader.

Right there with Barry Foote.

Dave Rader came over from Houston. Doug Rader was a 3rd sacker never on the Coob.

Good call. My bad.

Does this mean that Schwarber is the improved version of Keith Moreland?

Better than Foote. Not as good as Steve Swisher.

That's a good comparison. Moreland played 3rd,RF and catcher (all poorly). He was a pretty decent hitter, too.

Berryhill batted in the .290's for the Cubs one season and was very good defensively.

That would be me. I also thought the Lester signing was ridiculous after that 1st year.

seriously, does it take longer to groom kerry wood to be the eventual/natural replacement for coomdaddy/deshaies or does it take longer to groom a 12 year old girl into a willing prostitute?

for what it's worth (speaking about 90s cubs of legend and lore) my baseball uncle used to call the 1/3 of the order with orie blauser and servais "the bermuda triangle" =D

We rag on Hayward for falling off a cliff offensively, but God Bless those of us who had to endure the Jeff Blauser era.
