There's only 10 million in the metropolitan area... Out of that, let's assume that 30% could care less about sports in general and certainly not enough to skip other obligations to go to a parade. Then you have maybe a million of the 1.75 that went to the Sox that don't like the Cubs and wouldn't go. So I'm already down to a base of 6 million and you are telling me 5 million attended. Did millions come from Iowa, Indiana, Alabama, and Portugal? The estimate is a bit silly.

honestly, the whole thing with *0* arrests on the night of the championship and now 5 million people at the rally (undoubtedly with some ridiculously low, if existent, # of arrests) = some major PR stunt by rahm and his pals to try and paint chicago in the best light possible re: all of the negative pub that "chiraq" has given us over the years.

you know, i have a friend who was put on earth to be a bartender and the #1 thing he always said he loved about the job (outside of hooking up with stewardesses who'd happen to pop in by that old bennigans by the cumberland blue line stop, of course) was that he felt like as a bartender he had this godlike power to send people off on these little paths of self/destruction via professionally getting them drunk (cuz tipping a bartender is an artform that can often result in free booze over time)

so with that in mind, you're gonna tell me that out of these these throngs of drunken idiots who felt the need to run out in the street in front of wrigley just to assemble en masse to go WOOO CUBBIESSS!!!! there wasn't even one DUI that could theoretically be traced back to people going out and getting hosed for the cubpacalypse? or what if some druggie decided to get a bunch of shit earlier in the day to be all loaded up for the big game and they got arrested in the process of trying to do that? it's all semantics tbh.

in the end when i heard that the local news agencies were out there in #s on thursday morning gleefully reporting *0* arrests out of all that, yeah, it's gotta be some combo of the cops "relaxing" certain "public disturbance" stuff and then simply going out of their way to say that any incidental/tangential crime that was at least escalated by any and all ostentatious desires to be drunkenly WOOO CUBBIES!!!!! wasn't related to "the celebration" at all.

plus you know, i'm sure there's probably some unspoken thing about this being "good ol fashioned north side people having a gay ol time" as opposed to "those westside/southside assholes flipping over cars during the bulls riots" -- again, it all comes down to marketing chicago as "good wholesome fun" versus "chiraq" (whether or not it's truly 'a spike lee joint' =)
