I'm not doing a Senor bit on this one, this was the actual Dan.

One day we're gonna have the Dan Bernstein/Senor Columnist singularity where he inadvertently paraphrases a monologue of mine sight unseen. CAN'T WAIT.

No, you misunderstood.

He's just working out daddy issues (himself an Ivy-educated Jewish lawyer) and generously sharing them with an audience that just wants to know why Kyle Schwarber can't play left field.

It's particularly funny when he tells "white" people to not be afraid. He lives within gates benefiting from his family connections. Knowing his kids will at worst go to a racist southern Duke.

touching on CH's daddy issues/jewish-lawyer thing, i've always guessed that being jewish he knew a lot of contemporaries who "help" or "better" people by being doctors, lawyers, financial guys, bohemian grovers, or even david "father of the year" kaplan--- meanwhile dan's just kind of doing his "bad gay and weird" (at least in the days of "count fagula" anyways) sports show which he knows is superfluous in the big/ger picture.

ergo, my theory's always been that by "gentrifying the chicago sports fan" dan thinks he's genuinely doing some good to/with the public en masse; like he's helping them to become smarter/better people who are more enlightened and therefore able to enjoy sports in a better or simply more enjoyable way. he probably starts telling himself that those aforementioned doctors lawyers and financial guys (the "good monied people" in the "good seats"), let alone all of the "grunts" like the bus drivers, plumbers, and even people forever on disability (the "riff raff" in the upper deck) find some escapism from their day-to-day lives through sports and therefore if he can reach all of those people with his message of intelligentsia and context/optics/synergy/whatever that if they're able to "process" and "enjoy" sports/their-daily-escapism that much more through him (especially while kicking in a few bucks to his charity) that he's legitimately done the public en masse some good.... definitely not on a direct level with those bohemian fathers of the year, but hey, at least it's something, right?

and of course he's raising a couple'a kids to do way better than him (even if j-bernstein ends up being referred to as "sex luthor" some day) so you know, he's paying it forward to the world one gentrified mind at a time.... cuz you know the world needs all of the REALLY. SMART. PEOPLE. it can get!

Yeah, there's probably something to the fact that he can't simply see himself as an entertainer, which is a shame, because he's a very good entertainer when he wants to be. When he tries to handle political/socioeconomic/business issues and reveals himself to be a shitty arriviste with enough class anxiety to fill Lake Michigan, well, that's when we start putting the (sigh) in "Boers & Bernstein Ass-Licking Society."

I was at the front of the rally. Fans were pretty subdued. The lack of enthusiasm for lot of people mentioned was strange. The biggest cheers came after the fireworks display.

At a remote years ago, he told me that he was headed to NY to make big money at the networks . When I asked as what, he said pbp and then in studio. He clearly didn't do that, and is now stuck talking on the radio. He wanted to more, he's stuck, so he does the social commentary bit to make himself feel like he's a big time guy. He's not; he's just a local sports talker who is getting old and getting more bitter as the days go on.

Terry is one good teacher...

I don't think Terry has anything to do with it.

One lazy, cranky old man trains a young, ambitious newbie to be just like him..

Sounds like Boers and Bernstein relationship to me

There are some folks that told Dan that was never going to happen because of the way he treated others.

I bet he wishes he had stopped making priest jokes while working for the nations largest catholic university. That one butterflied on him and he was going to stop that type of joke soon after on his show anyway
