Bartman was the scapegoat for a Cubs' team that blew a 3-1 lead. But Bartman generally refuses any attention whether it's an interview or a book deal. There are few people in this world that could be that famous and never want to cash in or get some attention for themselves.

I know Ricketts does a lot of nice things for the fans and such, but Bartman deserves some sort of an apology from the Cubs and perhaps some signed memorabilia or complementary tickets.

This is the worst shoutout nomination ever.

The guy is an idiot who did this all to himself by hiding for the past 13 years like he's the unabomber. If he would've come out years ago and been like fuck you, go yell at that asshole shortstop who let the ball go through his legs you fucking morons..this whole thing would've been over and no one would've given him a hard time ever again.

To blame Bartman is stupid. The Cubs were up 3-1 and they lost 3 in a row and the last 2 at home.

If he never wants to talk to anyone about it ever again that's his choice.

I don't agree here. How was he supposed to handle it? Fading into nothingness was his best option when all of his options sucked.

I don't think so. I think shakes has it right above. Hiding has only magnified the legend. I'm sure this win helps him to fade away to a certain degree though.

Nobody blames Bartman, numbnutz. He's just a pud who screwed up and is in no way deserving of any apology.

Shakes option is the only other option worth discussing. Not everyone is built to handle it that way, but yes, I guess that is one viable option.

The whole thing is stupid and his name should have never even have been known.

He is clearly an introverted, shy dude, which probably didn't help anything.

One good interview also would have humanized him instead of turning him into part caricature and part whipping boy.

The only guy who came close was Stern, he called into Stern a week after the series but didn't want to go on air, he was a Howard fan and Howard was talking about him one day. He should have gone on air, Howard was on his side, he hates sports.

yeah i have to admit that's one thing i truly admire about the guy, he's never sought any sort of free publicity/shit/swag on the flipside of his infamy. right now you know there's going to be a line of cocksuckers all bending over backwards to be as good to the guy as possible and he could $$$BENEFIT$$$ from this, but he's above that.

not to mention all of the people going out of their way to be !!! to bartman are the people who probably would have preferred that his head was hanging from a harry caray statue in place of the severed goat heads circa 07-08.

There's no writing in stone that says you're not allowed to reach for a foul ball during a regular season or playoff game. Wrigley Field has probably the least amount of foul territory in the outfield of all the parks. You can't blame the guy when there's plenty of other people who did then and who would reach for a ball today.

I never heard that story. Was that actually confirmed or just Howard doing a bit?

That would have been interesting.

Legit, Gary confirmed it..captain janks talked to him off air but couldn't convince him to come on the air or come in studio.

I do blame Bartman. I still believe Alou catches that ball. I blame Gonzalez and Prior too. A player or Dusty should have pulled a Heyward. That leadership was missing.

That team was a bag of dicks. This team currently is great and can be celebrated for all of eternity. Who the hell wants to celebrate Dusty and Augie Ojeda.

Worse was the 2004 team. I think I hated them more than any other Cubs team.

I think the failure of 2004 may have been worse than 2003. Now I don't have to relive that pain.

I still remember Jose Macias having no clue what he was doing out in CF late in the season. Just misplaying fly ball after fly ball.
