Montgomery will take his place. Hammel will get a good chunk of change from someone.

Agreed. Lackey is a joke.

WHY CANT CUBS FANS JUST ENJOY THEIR VICTORY?!

I have no problem with this. He can give you innings in the regular season, but we need potential playoff contributors. #2017

He can contribute in the playoffs too. We're now down to 3 starters. Montgomery is an unknown.

He always falls apart in the second half. Cant win with him. I promise you he'll go somewhere else and underperform.

What would they have owed him? I'm kinda 50/50.

Looking past next year the Cubs are awfully thin on starting pitching . Lackey goes away, Jake prices himself out of town . Only leaves Hendricks. Better be some good free agent possibilities breaking loose.

Cubs did Hammel a favor.

Cubs will be fine with pitching. I expect Quintana in a Cubs uniform any day now.

WRONG!!! They will use the option because he won 15 games and represents a great option as a 5th starter. In the event Montgomery wins the 5th spot, he could be used in a trade. It's a win/win scenario for the Cubs.

What's up now bitch.

I get the strong feeling that Maddon was not a fan of Hammel.

In retrospect, Hammel was ahead of the curve of bitching out Merlot Joe's management of pitching staff.

That's definitely true.

And I'm guessing Montero will soon join that club if he hasn't already.

What FA starting pitchers are the Cubs rumored to sign or go after this off season?

Interesting move as he had value at 12M but Theo knows what he's doing.

And him and Maddon clearly did not get along.

Montgomery becomes a starter with the potential to be a front end guy if he can master his command.

Unless Montgomery learns to command his stuff I'm not sure he's going to be any better than Hammel. Maybe knowing he'll be a starter from the get go next year he'll improve but he was a 5 inning guy max last year. He's gotta be better than that next year. I trust the Harvard educated really.smart.guy. though.

I expect they'll add 1 veteran starter at least probably via trade

Also, they'll get Jansen

They'll be good

Isn't it nice to be able to give someone the benefit of the doubt?

It'd be nice if they could get Strop and Rondon straightened out and go 3 headed monster with David Jannsen for the 7-8-9 if they get him

He's worthless in the playoffs, Montgomery can toss 180 innings of 3.85 era ball in the reg season.. Good move
