I dont know if its been mentioned here before, but the reason you have MOUNT Greenwoond/Prospect, or HIGHland Park, Arlington HEIGHTS etc. is the perception that being close to the "low-lying" river was invitation for disease, and that seeking refuge in the high ground would inoculate you from the cholera below. There's really no geographic basis for any of it.

I'm pretty sure that Glendale Heights is named after the hilly terrain of northeast Dupage County.
