The best pale ale I've had recently is "Positively 11th Street" by Brick & Feather Brewing in Turners Falls, MA. This tiny brewery is only a year old and is really starting to produce some fine beers that are approaching the level of Vermont's best.

Single Cut, a relatively new brewery out of Queens, is making some nice beer. I was impressed by their grassy Haystack IPA, but their fruity (apricot, mild citrus), faintly grassy, slightly funky and totally opaque Billy 18-Watt IPA is a revelation--definitely one of the best new beers I've tried in the past year or so (along with some offerings by Night Shift, Hill Farmstead, Brick & Feather, and, yes, Trillium). I'm not sure if this brew has made it to Illinois, but if you see it on the shelf, it's worth picking up. At 5% ABV, it's a great session IPA.

The beer currently has a 92 rating on Beer Advocate, but I think it is far superior to MANY others that are ranked higher (Ballast Point Sculpin & Grapefruit Sculpin, Alesmith IPA, etc.).

It's getting a lot of hype, but I don't think it's anything special.

Singlecut is great. I've generally preferred their IPAs to Other Half, which I think is the most overhyped brewery in New York (and it helps that Singlecut gets distributed whereas Other Half generally requires long waits in line for their cans). Their DIPAs like Softly Spoken Magic Spells and Mo Shuggie seem to get the most hype, but I honestly prefer their pales and single IPAs just because they contain nearly as much flavor without the high ABV. Only downside for me is their format, as I'm increasingly reluctant to buy 500s and 750s of IPAs these days.

I've only had a couple Other Half offerings, and both were way too boozy/sweet my liking. So I never understood the hype for them.

Tiny Foley Brothers Brewing in Brandon, Vermont, has rightly earned an enthusiastic following on the New England craft beer scene. I recently sampled three of their brews (King Hawaiian Stout, Pieces of 8 IIPA, Fair Maiden IIPA), finding them all to be very good or excellent.

In my estimation, the standout of the group was Pieces of 8 IIPA. This beer poured with a potent citrus fragrance that was backed up by a more powerful fruit flavor featuring tangerine, mandarin orange, and apricot. The beer finished surprisingly cleanly given its 8% ABV, almost drinking like a session beer. I highly recommend it and look forward to trying another soon.

Pieces of 8 is my favorite Foley Brothers beer too. You should definitely be on the lookout for Prospect though, as that one's excellent as well. I just wish they would date their bottles.

Has anybody had anything from Noon Whistle in Lombard?

I have had the Cozmo Pale Ale, and something with a funky name including Mosaic, which are delicious hops. I like both offerings.

They just opened up a small brewery here in Kenosha right off the highway and have been meaning to head over there and try some of their stuff but the

I hope they make a go of it. If you have ever been to Uncle Mikes on the highway there it is next door to the north. I'll try to give a brief review at
some point. Been dabbling a little bit in the micro brew arena again but all pretty commercial stuff I can find at the local grocery store and only once
in a great while.
