plus if you bothered to look at the NC DMV page you would find this

Quote:
There is no fee for a North Carolina ID card for an individual registered to vote in North Carolina who does not have acceptable photo identification, under North Carolina General Statute §163-166.13.

To obtain a no-fee voter ID card, you must sign a declaration stating that you do not have an acceptable photo ID. If you already have an acceptable photo ID, you are not eligible to receive a no-fee voter ID.

You must also be registered to vote. If you are not a registered voter, DMV will assist you in completing your voter registration application during your visit, and you will still be eligible for your no fee voter ID.

As with any non-operator ID card, you must provide proof of age and identity, a valid Social Security number and proof of citizenship and residency.

Plus they have mobile units that go around the State.

None of that address shutting down polling places and buildings where people get IDs.

Chas, I'm not going to argue with you about this. Do your homework, or don't.

So let's say tomorrow they announce that for voting in 2020 that everyone will be required to show identification nationwide and that anyone who requests one who doesn't have a valid drivers license or passport can receive one from the federal government for free.

This gives everyone 4 years to get one and it gives the Democrats, who seem to be the most concerned, 4 years to get everyone an identification card just like they have registration drives and how they have people driving people to the polls that can't otherwise get there.

What is the argument against that?

If that is the case it needs to be fixed. The Dems need to correct it if it is the repubs doing it. Instead of trying to get illegals to vote, the pres basically told them too a couple days ago. It is wrong and bullshit for that sort of thing to be done. The ID thing is a red herring. Other countries require it ,why not us. I mean Mexico you need an ID.

BRick with a hypothetical. Who saw that coming?

None of that changes the fact that the DMVs are being closed in MANY areas. Or that polling stations are being closed.

This isn't just about IDs.

You aren't even responding to what I said. Like MANY, you are just hung up on IDs, when there is so much more going on here.

I can't help you, Chas.

Closing DMV's and impeding people's ability to get ID's is a separate issue.

Feel free to ignore it but there is nothing wrong with asking a hypothetical question.

This would give everyone 4 years to deal with those issues.

This should be something that stops voter suppression rather than trying to surprise it on people with a few months or weeks left before the election.

So, is there an argument against what I said?

There are a lot of states that give you free IDs to vote I just proved the NC line was wrong that CHUS was spouting. They have numerous sites plus mobile units that go around the state and get this they list where it is going to be at the start off the year.

If as you are saying we need more early voting then why keep polling places open on election day when they are underused? It is a two headed daemon. We should as a nation not put a price tag on our elections but unfortunately we do.

You proved nothing, other than you do not know of what you speak.

Here you go Chas.

There Are 868 Fewer Places to Vote in 2016 Because the Supreme Court Gutted the Voting Rights Act
