BLM and Blue Lives Matter both planning protests at 111th and Kedzie this afternoon. Hope everyone behaves themselves. If anyone was planning on driving anywhere near there, don't. Traffic blows ass on a normal day over there.

Interesting version of the event from the Tribune. 9 on 1 fight eh?

e confrontation started after Beal's family left a funeral procession and drove to 111th Street, weaving in and out of traffic, including around an off-duty police officer's car, before pulling over in front of a firehouse in the Mount Greenwood neighborhood, prosecutors said.

When a person asked the group to move their car because it was blocking the fire station driveway, about nine people got out of several vehicles and attacked him, prosecutors said.

A woman on the street who called 911 was attacked by a female juvenile in the group, who punched her in the head, yelled obscenities and told her to "mind her own business," prosecutors said.

An off-duty officer saw the person being attacked and ordered the group to stop, identifying himself as a cop, holding up his badge in one hand and keeping the other near his firearm, prosecutors said.

Witnesses saw Joshua Beal go into a car, grab a gun and pointed it at the off-duty officer, prosecutors said.

"You're not the only (expletive) out here with guns," someone in Beal's group allegedly yelled.

Beal then pulled the trigger, but the gun didn't fire, prosecutors said. Beal waved the weapon back and forth, prosecutors said, and a witness saw him pull back the gun's slide lock, causing bullets to fall out. Two loose rounds were found after the shooting, prosecutors said.

He allegedly ignored repeated orders to drop the weapon.

IF true, he should have been shot. Some of that doesn't make sense though. He was able to pull the trigger on a weapon and check to see if it was jammed before he was shot. I would have thought after he pulled the trigger a split second later he would have a bullet in his head.

About exactly the things I've been told, I just wish I was there to beat the fuck out of a couple of these pussies, I'm no cop lover but this is just insane.. I was down the street at blackthorn when this went down.. That " firehouse " is a god damn retirement house. They see zero action, not a man in the station that's under 55... This pos deserved to get shot n killed, anybody arguing the opposite is either retarded or brain dead.

Well BLM has moved on to focusing on how racist Mt. Greenwood is instead of this guy getting killed.

Nobody deserves to be shot unless they are about to hurt someone else (which may or may not have been the case). But damnit....Americans are so angry. Just say ok, fine, I'll move the car, what you say makes sense....(if that was what happened)

Anger and impulsivity.

Probably because the family's original story about being run off the road by the off duty cop, Beal never getting out of the car and certainly not pointing a gun at anyone is turning out to be not so true.

Wait--if he was illegally parked and a fire fighter told him to move, then it's the fire fighter's business (if that's what you are talking about).

Well when you pull out a gun and pointed it at someone they SHOULD defend themselves. The rest of the stuff probably happened because it was a black funeral procession doing dumb shit. MANY people would see it as a temporary annoyance and ignore it.

If Trump wins, he'll take on Big Media and their liberal agenda and you won't have these stories anymore.

They never reported on every time a cop shot someone. Because there wasn't any money in it.

That has changed.

It'll change back again.

I wish people could distinguish between reporting and opinion pieces. I don't think many people can. Or some people do not want to. So much bad faith.

Angry Mob Surrounds Black Activists in Mt. Greenwood

CHICAGO, IL -- More than 500 people chanting “CPD, CPD” and waving Blue Lives Matter American flags convened at the intersection of 111th Street and Kedzie late Tuesday afternoon near the site where an African American man was shot by an off-duty Chicago police sergeant last weekend.

The Blue Lives Matter protest was scheduled in anticipation of scheduled protest staged by black activists from SURJ -- Standing Up for Racial Justice -- accompanied by Rev. Michael Pfleger in the Mt. Greenwood neighborhood where many of the city’s police officers, firefighters and city workers reside.

Activists arrived walking down the center of Kedzie Avenue surrounded by jeering Blue Lives Matter protesters on opposite sides of the street chanting “13 shots and a funeral” amid heavy protection by the Chicago Police Department.

SURJ is calling for an independent investigation of the death of 25-year-old Joshua Beal, who was shot to death by an off-duty police officer on Nov. 5 during a traffic altercation near 111th Street and Troy in Mt. Greenwood. Beal, an Indianapolis man with a criminal past, was part of a funeral procession which had stopped in a fire lane in front of a Chicago firehouse when the altercation ensued.

A preliminary investigation by Chicago police determined that Beal was allegedly holding a gun in his hand when he was shot. Police said that a widely circulated photo on neighborhood social media, as well as witness video taken at scene was “authentic.”

The controversial Father Pfleger led members of the SURJ group in prayer in the middle of the street. The activists marched north down Kedzie in a protective circle of police officers, as Blue Lives Matter protesters surged into the street yelling, “go back to Englewood,” “Go home Pfleger,” and singing “Na, na, na, hey, hey, goodbye.”

At one point a U.S. Postal Service semi truck rumbled down Kedzie. The police supporters started screaming, “run them over."

The activists held up signs saying “stop racist police terrorism” and “cops stop killing.”
