I for one am quite concerned with how Europeans who routinely elect parliamentarians from the White Supremacy Liberation Front will view us. I'm stitching a Canadian flag to my backpack as we speak.

My fiance is renewing her Canadian passport. Said she doesn't want to use her American one for the honeymoon.

I think that's mainly true, and I saw a quote I thought was pretty accurate: Trump detractors took him literally but not seriously; Trump supporters took him seriously, but not literally.

It's a good thing that our liberal media made sure everybody was aware of that. But, the emails.

That's not true. If you were the parent of some petty officer who mishandled a a classified communication and was court-martialed for it and you saw someone who ran an entire unsecured server loaded with classified materials running for president, I think you'd be pretty upset. Plus the fact that she destroyed subpoenaed materials rather than turning them over. It's far from "nothing". And part of the reason she lost.

It was determined that Rice and Powell did exactly the same thing and it was not illegal.

Thanks for playing along with the "Lock her up" narrative.

Did Rice and Powell have their records subpoenaed and immediately start wiping drives and deleting e-mails? Where is LTG to scream "false equivalence" now?

Powell didn't set up a private server. He used AOL for personal e-mails and the official state department system for classified communications.

I woke up crying this morning but made it to our 8am normal, weekly faculty meeting, where our headmaster said “well, we live in interesting times” and then got on with the agenda and I felt dirty and sad and like something had died but we couldn’t hold a funeral or mourn.

Then, in my first period class, a senior literature elective, over half of my students came in already teary-eyed and hugged each other as they sat down - several of the girls had gotten back at 2am the night before from the trip they’d been so excited about: the Javits Center. I’d already been thinking about how I’d have to scrap the lesson I’d had on the syllabus. It felt morally wrong to pretend this was in any way like Bush v Gore; the idea of trying to pretend like it was a normal day felt complicit. So we listened to Solange and watched “Formation” and “Revolution” and “Once in a Lifetime” by the Talking Heads and they wrote everything that was on their minds into their notebooks where no one would ever have to see it. I told them they could rip it up, if they wanted to, for catharsis. Then, for the next half hour of class, we read the last two stanzas of Auden’s poem “September 1, 1939" (which I let them read silently, so I wouldn’t start crying again), and I changed the music to Aretha Franklin (“Natural Woman”) and Otis Redding (“Try a Little Tenderness”), and told them to write a love letter to someone, anyone, and they didn’t have to actually deliver the letter but they could if they wanted to.

I didn’t know what else to do.

The students at my school (which is only 50% white and full of openly out students and intelligent, not-yet cynical young women and men) feel like the adults in the country have let them down. It’s our responsibility as teachers to show them what it looks like to keep fighting. To “show an affirming flame.”

You know, when the Challenger exploded and a bunch of kids saw a crew of people die in front of them in a fiery explosion on live television, we couldn't even get a bathroom pass.

I was in fifth grade. The teacher wheeled in an old crappy TV on a cart, just in time for us to watch it blow up.

I listened to the take off and got out of my truck in the 1000 block of N Kedzie.

By the time I got back in, Christopher Glenn was reporting that it had exploded. It was surreal.

Truthfully, I was in high school and heard about it in the cafeteria.

But, the point still stands.

Did your teacher give you time to write your feelings in your journal?

That link is full of so much complete bullshit. I was surprised to see one of the commenters actually have some common sense:

Pie o my
Ellie Shechet
11/10/16 1:56pm

I told my 4 year old son, through tears, on the drive home yesterday what had happened. I said “Hon, Hillary didn’t win the election yesterday. Donald Trump won and he is going to be president.”

He replied, “No! I am not listening to him! Donald Trump says dangerous things and he hurts people! I am not listening to anything he says. The D was supposed to win. I am so mad at this” He calls Hillary the D because I guess he saw on TV a D for democrat near her picture.

My heart broke even more, but we had a conversation that even though he is the president, we do not have to watch him on tv or look at anything with him on it and that we will get through it. In the meantime we will help others and be nice to everyone no matter if they are a girl or a boy or how they look or what clothes they wear. I will not expose my children to this illiterate piece of shit any more than absolutely necessary.

The kid got it from YOU.

If he’s stressed out over an election he can’t vote in and wouldn’t understand most of anyway at his age, then YOU put this in his head.

Take responsibility for not protecting him instead of making it about Trump or the media.

I’m not kidding. He’s too young to have to carry these thoughts in his head. It’s not fair.

Katie, kindergarten teacher, Memphis, Tennessee:

I deal with hard to answer questions from my students everyday. “Do cows burp?” “What would we look like with teeth on our feet?” “Why don’t bees have thumbs?” Yesterday I got one of the hardest I probably will ever get.

“If Trump is elected, will I be a slave?”

I didn’t know how to answer. I still don’t. Because the honest truth is, I really have no idea what a Trump America will be like. And the fact that in the year 2016 I don’t have a definite answer to a question like this, from one of my 5 YEAR OLD students, is exactly how I can’t understand that we let someone like Trump get elected.

That has nothing to do with Donald Trump and has everything to do with whoever told a 5 year old that he's going to be a slave if Trump gets elected.

To top it off, this fucking pinhead kindergarten teacher "Didn't know how to answer because she has no idea what a Donald Trump America will be like."

AAARRRGHHHH!

Going with, "No, that's crazy" would be a good start to help out a 5 year-old.

That would be too honest and honesty goes out the window when you're promoting a political agenda and indoctrinating children.

No wonder many kids today are a basket case in need of a safe space whenever they don't get their way. Look at the people teaching them.

“If Trump is elected, will I be a slave?”

I didn’t know how to answer. I still don’t.

Going with, "No, that's crazy" would be a good start to help out a 5 year-old.

That would be too honest and honesty goes out the window when you're promoting a political agenda and indoctrinating children.

It's the same deal with Bernstein's kid worried about going to a camp. Trump isn't Hitler.

Trump is a billionaire, New York socialite that got most likely got bored and decided, probably as a personal challenge, to see if he could get elected President. He went out with an "I don't give a fuck" attitude and said a bunch of shit that would whip a crowd up into a frenzy and realized it was working so he kept doing it. Ultimately, probably to nobody's bigger surprise than his own, he actually did get himself elected. Now he'll turn over running the country to a bunch of career politicians and give a few speeches. The world isn't ending. Probably.

I told my 20 month old that Donald Trump was going to be president. She giggled, asked for the iPad and more popcorn.

I thought I would get more of a reaction from my 3 month old. She shit herself.

Whatever. I didn't like any of the candidates anyway.
