I'm addressing Scooter's specific point about Trump not being a liar. You never heard me say that Hillary isn't a liar.

Settle down.

Well... we do allow a secret ballot here. I mean, no one owes you an answer. You're making it sound like they committed a crime or something and you demand answers. Its... unnerving.

They have never meet the spending levels, once again Trump questions why they should not pay to defend themselves, why should the USA pay all this money to defend everyone else when they wont do it for themselves. Once again ,we need to take care of ourselves first.

You are the same guy who bitches about Obama pissing all over our allies. What a hypocrite.

Why don't you just admit that you voted for Trump?

Admit it? Like it's a crime or something?

I never said you accused them of a crime. I said you wanted them to admit to something like they were admitting to a crime. Read what I said again.

Now we're arguing semantics? Sounds like subterfuge either way.

Um... ok dude.
The difference is significant between accusing someone of committing a crime and demanding a confession as if they had committed a crime. That's not semantics... that's two complete different things.
Perhaps we can agree to disagree on that point and stop talking about it as I don't see a reasonable resolution to this.

Automation is the reason most of those jobs are gone. Probably 80% of them.
That doesn't make sense though. So much of the stuff we buy is made in China. There has to be a reason.

If it was automation we would still have factories filling all those rust belt cities and my phone would have been made in Cleveland.

You sound like Mike North when he claimed the economy was fine because he went to Vegas and there were a lot of people there.

You don't have to do much checking to know that Trump told far more lies during the campaign than Clinton. It wasn't even close.

The thing is, we've become numb to such lies, particularly within the context of our political campaigns. Some people even consider it clever or admirable. "You have to say what you need to say to get elected." If it's a guy they support the next sentence is, "In order to get into office to do good."

But Clinton's secrecy and lies were on the public's dime. That does make a difference. I guess we'll have to see how Trump handles it now that he's in office. I don't expect him to stop lying.

Who are you talking about here? I don't know the demographics that vote. Poor republicans vote for wealthy people because they would like that lifestyle themselves? Poor Democrats vote for wealthy people that say they will help but have no intention of doing so and only help their wealthy friends?

I agree it's sad that we're all getting poorer and voting for the wealthy that don't care.

Think he was talking about you?

I wonder how butthurt some of Trump's crazy supporters are that he met with and called Obama a great man this morning.

I guess we'll have to wait until Darkside logs on later to find out.

My wonderment is at the assumed Obama supporters going crazy while Obama calls for a smooth transition.

Automation is global and costing jobs in China and Mexico as well as here. For items that aren't as cost-effective to automate, cheap labor in China (and to a lesser extent, Mexico) is making up the difference for jobs that would have to be automated here to remain. Either way, that US job is gone.

Automation is going to get everyone in the end but there is a reason those automated jobs didn't stay here.

I've been thinking long and hard about this... do we really care about blue collar workers, anyway? Just let them die off.

I'm generalizing based on first-hand experience but the path seems to be -

1. Job too expensive to stay, cheaper labor in Mexico
2. Move work to Mexico (outsourced or new facility)
3. Volume of production is such that automation in Mexico makes sense
4. Job is automated in Mexico

There are obvious exceptions for jobs that require technical expertise and it then automates here in the US. But, typically, the cost/benefit analysis of automating basic operations show it's cheaper to farm the work out if possible to cheap labor rather than automate here.

Combine that with most major manufacturers moving to Mexico and requiring more JIT programs make the move to China/Mexico/etc. almost a necessity to keep business.
