Well, the beverage tax may mean big business for stores in other counties.

i wonder if les grobstein is going to have to permanently retire his frequent use of the "they're coming to take me away!" drop out of respect for his brethren who have very real concerns about having that happen to them and their loved ones. lamentably, we no longer live in a world where we can have an "innocuous" laugh at the "crazy" people about "being taken away" =/

Rather than enacting tariffs, I think Trump should just tax the hell out of commodities and basic necessities. These blue collar assholes have had an easy ride for too long.

I don't think the beverage tax is going to stand. It will probably go to the courts. It's ridiculous to think that anyone would stop drinking pop because it costs more. If anything a black market will show up in which guys with trucks will show up with a load of cheaper stuff from the suburbs.

Does anyone remember when LA tried to force kids to eat healthy lunches?

"For many students, L.A. Unified's trailblazing introduction of healthful school lunches has been a flop. Earlier this year, the district got rid of chocolate and strawberry milk, chicken nuggets, corn dogs, nachos and other food high in fat, sugar and sodium. Instead, district chefs concocted such healthful alternatives as vegetarian curries and tamales, quinoa salads and pad Thai noodles.

There's just one problem: Many of the meals are being rejected en masse. Participation in the school lunch program has dropped by thousands of students. Principals report massive waste, with unopened milk cartons and uneaten entrees being thrown away. Students are ditching lunch, and some say they're suffering from headaches, stomach pains and even anemia. At many campuses, an underground market for chips, candy, fast-food burgers and other taboo fare is thriving."

Rich people drink pop just like poor people. I'll bet it's the same percentage.

It's still a regressive tax because it takes a higher percentage of a poor person's money.

Who cares? They can stop.

I get it with smoking because people are addicted and many can't stop. That isn't the case with sugary soda.

This tax will not apply to anyone on SNAP, just like the bottled water tax. It is illegal for cities and states
to collect an extra tax on SNAP benefits. Federal law, feel free to look it up.

Everyone doesn't have SNAP. Aldi sells 24 packs of water for less than $3 but the water tax adds another $1.20 to your total. That's bullshit. If you don't want people to drink bottled water or pop then ban it.

Took me three months to quit Diet Pepsi. Ended up with one swig a day for a week.

Squares: Got the patch. Quit for good after about ten times.

H: Workin' on it.

Portraying the tax as only on pop and sugary drinks and done in the interest of public health (including the obligatory breathless "think of the children" canard), but then to tax water - fucking water - too is what's bullshit about it. You literally have to purposefully ignore reality not to come to that conclusion, and very quickly at that.

Taxes really are quite aggravating. Sin taxes like this do nothing to build the good feelings in your population. Just be honest and take a flat amount out of everyone's check. Then let them decide whether to live in your haven.

They will always be ready with a figure. Product/consumable X is used by a certain segment of society and cost Y billion to society. It's always a multiple of billion.

Is it bottled?

We don't buy it for everyday use but have it for guests, parties, and the cars.

Yep! We go through 6 plus cases a month. No pop or sugar drinks in the house. That's about the only thing I do right.

That's a lot of bottled water. People are going to poo poo you for this.

Poland springs is the worst water ever. Don't buy it. Why spring water?
