... and in 2016, the Chicago Cubs baseball team won the last World Series in the country that, at the time, was known as the United States...

Doesn't change the fact that not winning since has extended that celebration.
Ok, but you aren't saying that the 85 Bears over the few first years are going to be as revered as the 2016 Cubs.

Coincidentally, Cubs were on SNL last weekend
They do that with a lot of teams, including the White Sox.

So you're saying that, should a miracle occur and the Bears win a Superbowl, the city will still recognize the "anniversary" of the '85 win?

Of course.

If the Bulls win the title this year the 90s Bulls don't suddenly disappear either. Those are transcendent teams that captured the nation and in the case of the Bulls the world.

The Yankees have more titles than anyone and I still know about the 27 Yankees.

DB should owe me $500 instead of $100

No, at least I'd hope not. I wasn't around here when they won or in the immediate years after. Were they still treated like Gods after losing the next year? And the year after that? And so on?

Continuing to remember them is one thing, but running full page ads and several news stories at each milestone year anniversary? That SHOULD be diminished by the Bears celebrating a current Superbowl win.

It HAS to be celebrated excessively now because that's all Bears' fans have.
