So candidate X and his cohorts sit down and looking at which, oh I don't know, 12 states (or however many) they need to go to with a crazy campaign promise of reducing those folks' federal income tax to zero and raising it on everyone else to compensate if only they will give him their millions upon millions of votes ... isn't that sorta kinda the crazy shit the electoral college prevents (either by design or simply by consequence of its existence)?

The example isn't necessarily meant to be viewed realistically, but the sentiment behind it is (e.g., let's get CA, IL, OH, FL, NY, PA TX, and whoever the hell else to vote us in by catering solely to their interests at the express expense of the remaining 'irrelevant' states).

I like the sound of one person, one vote and all ... I think I posted on it yesterday in some thread more or less in favor of the sweeping movement (which apparently included IL) ... it's just that, as with most things, there almost certainly have to be some sort of set of unforeseen/unintended consequences to making that huge of a transition.

If I'm not mistaken, the Electoral College was designed- or at least backed- by James Madison to give more power to the slave states. U.S. slavery- the gift that keeps on giving.

Define nobody. I truly think your only exposure to baseball is through homer Sox fans and Hawk.

The Cubs were favored to win the World Series from Spring Training through November 2nd.

Bernie was proven to be a fraud when he claimed that he was going to instead concentrate on changing the House and Senate to "his people" and his first target just so happened to be Debbie Wasserman Schultz.

"But beneath the cheering, a new emotion is taking hold among some Trump supporters as they grapple with reports predicting that he will lose the election: a dark fear about what will happen if their candidate is denied the White House. Some worry that they will be forgotten, along with their concerns and frustrations. Others believe the nation may be headed for violent conflict.

Jared Halbrook, 25, of Green Bay, Wis., said that if Mr. Trump lost to Hillary Clinton, which he worried would happen through a stolen election, it could lead to “another Revolutionary War.”

“People are going to march on the capitols,” said Mr. Halbrook, who works at a call center. “They’re going to do whatever needs to be done to get her out of office, because she does not belong there.”

“If push comes to shove,” he added, and Mrs. Clinton “has to go by any means necessary, it will be done.”

I don't think so, KWood. Trump got the voter turnout and paired with his message of a "rigged election", I'm sure there would have been some interesting reactions to a Clinton victory.

Oh sure ... but that's a bit opulent for everyday use ... they should only be used for special occasions.
(no, I have no idea what constitutes a baby butt wipe special occasion)

I don't know where you come up with this stuff. The number of Electors from each state was and is predicated on the number of Congressional representatives from each stateam as based on the Census just as it is today. Yes, at the time, that number factored in that slaves were counted as 3/5 of a person. However, that does not mean that the system itself was based on "slavery." The original plan included the Electors being voted on individually, but the states were left to figure out the process themselves, and making their own decisions on who to vote for. The rise of political parties altered the original intent of the process.

The Electoral College exists for the same reason that every other "representative" portion of our government exists... the founders did not trust common rubes to make important decisions, such as electing a president (we now know they were right). Even though people poo poo it today, when the electoral college was originally proposed, it was created so that educated, qualified people could elect the president, even if it went against the wishes of the state voters. In practice today, they could not do that without causing a revolution, but that is what it was originally intended for.

What is an anti-bullying ambassador? Is that like a self-declared title? I only read the article to find that out and I still didn't find out.
