Good in Bullitt as the asshole Senator.

CNN Breaking News ‏@cnnbrk 25m25 minutes ago

Robert Vaughn, who played a spy on TV's "The Man From U.N.C.L.E.," died Friday, according to his manager. http://cnn.it/2fXvEzE

CNN)Robert Vaughn who played a slick spy on TV's "The Man From U.N.C.L.E.", died Friday, his manager, Matthew Sullivan, told CNN. He was 83.
Vaughn had been ill with acute leukemia and was receiving treatment in recent months.
A New York native, Vaughn was born to parents who were already in show business.

His mother, Marcella Vaughn, was an actress on stage and his father, Walter Vaughn, was a radio actor. His parents divorced when he was young.

As a teen Vaughn moved to Los Angeles to live with his mother and eventually obtained a degree in theater from Los Angeles City College in 1956.

He was drafted into the military and served as a drill instructor in the Army.
Vaughn dived into acting after his military service ended and in 1960, his role as Chet in the film "The Young Philadelphians" earned him an best supporting actor Academy Award nomination.

More roles followed in films like "The Magnificent Seven" and in TV series including "The Dick Van Dyke Show."
But it was his performance as a suave spy in "The Man From U.N.C.L.E." which defined Vaughn as a star.
"I said 'It's James Bond on television, and [co-creator Norman Felton] said 'That's it,'" Vaughn recalled in an interview with the Television Academy about how he got the role. "He said, 'Bit don't say that. [James Bond] creator Ian Fleming and I are friends and that might cause problems.'"

Vaughn continued working throughout his life in films like "Superman III" and "The Towering Inferno" and, more recently, in TV shows including "Murder She Wrote" and "Law & Order."

He is survived by his wife Linda and two children, Cassidy and Caitlin Vaughn.

Rest in peace.

Loved his banter with Richard Pryor in Superman III.

A great American who was deeply involved with the Civil Rights movement and apparently, the first celebrity to speak out against the Vietnam War. As a result, the FBI accumulated a 140 page file on him. Shameful. Trump being elected probably pushed the poor man over the edge.

Requiescat.

I just found out about this a few minutes ago. This one hits hard. He was the closest thing to a boyhood hero for me. I loved "The Man from U.N.C.L.E." and still do.

It's like a big piece of my childhood ripped away and it's really depressing.

He was an interesting guy who was best friends with Bobby Kennedy & Steve McQueen.

NOOOOOOOOO! ALBERT STROLLER FROM HUSTLE IS DEAD?!?! FUCKIN ELL M8

i didn't see anyone mention hustle in here, but that was a pretty solid show for what it was ("formulaic as hell / so overtly clever the characters literally wink at the camera here and there" show about con-men/grifters putting in work in london) even tho i think by and large the "second generation" with the kylie minogue looking chick* and the dime-a-dozen cute british twink wasn't quite as fun as the first 3-4 years. c'est la vie.

i guess now that means the chance of some one-off hustle "reunion" special is that much less likely, however it's not like there was really much story to tell at the end of that show because trying to provide "closure" to hustle would be like having an epilogue for a bowl of ice cream.

still, it sucks that albert freaking stroller is dead! RIP dude.

* = in the beginning of either her 2nd or 3rd season on the show, they started the season by having kelly adams' character doing a con where they got some rich middle eastern guy to pay $100k for a special/private kylie minogue concert, so they got [kelly adams' character] to just do a whole performance as kylie minogue for that $100k. kelly adams said that the producers were like "dude, we GOTTA do this... it's a show about grifters/con-men FFS and everyone says you look like her.!" =)

Sini,
I used to watch that, too. Vaughn was great in that role as Albert Stroller,grifter/conman. The rest of the cast with their unintelligible British accents were another thing entirely.

I was just coming here to post that.

Well, the network ruined the A-Team. He and that dumbfuck Frankie were just the method of the destruction.

I thought some of the best episodes were in that season. The trial of the A-Team was pretty good and the "salute to U.N.C.L.E." episode was cool.
