It is. He's not that smart or tactical. I think he ran for president to gain publicity and be outrageous (or perhaps just for fun) and all the sudden, it sank in that he was being seriously considered. I don't think any of this was planned ahead of time. There's nothing about him or what he says that implies he is the least bit strategic in what he says or does. Hell, I think that was part of his appeal.

So he defeated all the challengers in the GOP primary. He defeated the Clinton machine in the general. And yet you don't think he is at least a little smart and strategic?

I mean I get he is a boob, but come on, all of that just did not happen by chance.

I think he is smarter and more strategic than most give him credit for.

Then I fall under the "most" category because I think he is neither smart nor strategic. His bombast and lack of a filter appealed to his supporters - I don't think that counts as a strategy. It's just who he is and who he has been all of his adult life.

Correct. Trump didn't just up and decide to become a belligerent assclown. He's always been one, and that appealed to his supporters... right place, right time. Seriously, what kind of strategy do you need when it's pretty much acknowledged that you could say or do whatever you want and it's a certainty that it won't hurt your support?

From WSJ this morning":
Quote:
Mr. Trump "is going to be another Obama," said the 43-year-old Ms. Shupp. She considers both men to be agents of change. As for the crude remarks Mr. Trump made during the campaign, especially concerning women, Ms. Shupp said she dismissed them as bragging and "shoptalk," and she didn't believe the women who accused him of sexual assault.

MANY women shared her views while MANY Lena Dunhams have no idea woman exist outside of Brooklyn and Los Angeles.

So when Putin is a belligerent assclown he's a genius, when Trump is a belligerent assclown he's stupid.

Agree to disagree I guess.

Trump is no doubt an idiot, and it is still hard to believe he actually won. But he did win. And I cannot just accept that it is some perfect storm situation and that it just all kinda fell into his lap.

He got past all the other GOP guys and the Clinton machine. In doing so he pulled of wins in places no one would have ever dreamed like Penns, Wisconsin, and Michigan.

Yet there was no strategy or no intelligence at work.

umm, ok.

Please tell me where I said Putin was a genius. I said he's smarter than Trump because Trump is so stupid. Additionally, Trump has no self-awareness, so the fact that he "doesn't know what he doesn't know" is lost on him. Bad traits for a president.

Very little.

You want me to give him credit for something? I'll give him this one thing... he has a lot of energy and ballsiness to be able to call into news shows every day. Very few would have the energy or "social stamina" to continue to do that day after day. But I don't think it was part of a mastet plan... it was just part of a plan to get himself more publicity.

The odds of life forming on Earth were 1 in 1 kajillion. I'm willing to believe that this moment in history combined with his brashness allowed this election to fall in his lap. The odds aren't that small.

Andy Richter just tweeted that Bernie Sanders wouldn't have beaten Trump either because he's (((the wrong kind of white person))). Fuck you, fatty.

I agree with leash. Becoming the most disliked candidate in history is not evidence of a good plan, or of maybe any plan. His own poll guys had him losing the election as well. Clinton lost this - he didn't win.

Yeah I've really loved this particularly spin from the DNC apologists, especially given how frequently these same people characterized him as just another typical white guy standing in the way of the first female president.

Whoops, thought I was in this threadbut it works here too and you may as well merge that into this:

The episode of Chapo Trap House where they tear down Brennan and his retarded "epistocracy" is one of the best.

don't they ever get tired of this schtick?

On the other hand, the woman in Andy Richter Controls the Universe was pretty hot.

The subheadline really sets you up for that one. You know Tuesday night/Weds morning there was that great moment of clarity where the left all at once seemed to think to itself "Oh shit, we have turned the country against us" and everyone was vowing to get back in touch and start to abandon the identity obsession. I felt like climbing back into the fold after seeing that reaction, like thank god they finally fucking woke up.

But now its obvious the strategy is just to double down on that shit so Trump can flip Minnesota and Virginia (which would've flipped without Tim Kaine) next time around. You'd think the sky is falling panic would be accompanied by some hard self scrutiny but no, they are right back at it. I mean look at this shit:
Quote:
Quick message for the Brogressives: back off and let women grieve. Even better, support them. Of course there are valid criticisms of Clinton and the Democratic Party. But when you inflict your analysis on a woman who is devastated that Americans just elected a man who considers her subhuman, you are being sexist. Plain and simple.

Trump's winning by even more next time around. If the economy so much as convulses while it chokes on its own vomit or Whirlpool brings one plant back to Ohio he's going to make a play at states like Illinois, New Jersey and New York too.

I'm not even sure they get the House or Senate back in 2018. Usually you can set your watch to a pendulum swing back in a midterm election but these people are so tone deaf they're going to blow the whole thing again.

That's a clown article by a nitwit. They love to give Hillary credit for "experience" in Bill's presidency when it suits them, but when anyone tries to give her blame for the administration they scream that she's not him and how you're being sexist.

If my girlfriend called me up crying because this criminal lost, I'd break up with her on the call. That doesn't mean I'm happy about Trump winning either.

The only thing scarier than doubling down on what lost would be to further chase Republicans by even ceding social issues and employing Ezra Klein and Matt Yglesias to craft some "market-based solutions" to gun ownership. We love guns just as much as you do, but by instituting government gun exchanges and tax penalties for gun ownership, we'll make sure guns stay in the white---the right hands.

The crocodile tears and doubling down on "everyone is a neo-nazi!" Stuff that the "media" is continuing to puke up shows that they've learned nothing, aren't interested in doing their jobs (anymore than they were on November 7) and that 2018 will be a poor year indeed for Democrats.

Sad and entertaining at the same time. Violently thrashing about in the dark, screaming at everyone while trying to make sense of it all.

Yes, I do disagree. How does Bernie go from being just another white man standing in the way of women and pee-oh-seeeeeeees to an Elder of Zion caricature overnight? How do you get to have it both ways? The DNC tried to campaign on him being the wrong kind of Jew (is one, is not an observant one) and it stalled out. If Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania could elect a black man who spoke to their concerns, they could have elected a Jewish man who spoke to their concerns. The Hillary people just go straight to identity on everything because they can't analyze the deeper ways in which her campaign went to shit.
