Traded to the Mets today.

That's 4 or 5 guaranteed losses that the Sox won't have this year. Then again, the Tigers and Indians can say the same thing so it's a wash for the division contenders. It could help to secure a wild card with those potential extra wins.

Some of the early reports indicate that Minnesota may have settled a bit too much in this trade.

Did they ?

I dont understand why they didnt take the boston offer, they could have had either lester or the kid outfielder (forgot his name).

I wont say the mets made out on this deal totally because Santana has been rumored to have a iffy shoulder.

of all the pitchers in baseball, i'm pretty sure johan santana is the least susceptible to injury, and i wonder where you're hearing these rumors about injury - it's a horseshit thing to say, because it could be said about any pitcher. look up his pitches thrown / innings pitched / appearances and you'll see that he rarely, if ever, has thrown more than 120 in a game.

and he's done that while being the greatest in the league and will likely end up as the greatest of the "post-steroid" era. his performance will be shadowed by clemens and randy johnson, historically, but after those guys there's none better, and as a fan of the game i'm really kind of disappointed that he didn't stay in the AL. twins vs. sox games when santana was pitching were can't miss, for me, and while i was prepared for his departure i'm going to miss watching that matchup, especially if buehrle was on the mound for the beloved sox, which happened pretty often.

and, yes, the twins made a real stinker of a deal with the mets. gomez is touted by all the wrong people and for all the wrong reasons, and he's the only real asset they got in exchange for THE GREATEST ACTIVE PITCHER IN THE GAME. the red sox deal would have been a better one, and i can't wrap my head around why they didn't take it. getting the guy out of the AL can't have been the priority there, nor should it have been a priority to keep the sox from having the nastiest pitching staff in the league, so i'll be interested to hear what was going on there.

I can see them not wanting to trade in the division but they should have traded with the Red Sox if it was the better deal.

Obvioulsy whoever got him was going to sign him before he gets to free agency. So now the Mets will have him for 4 or 5 years.

It helps the Sox and hurts the Cubs. It could come down to the Mets or Cubs for the Wild Card. Obviously Santana could make the difference in that race.

This really could not have worked out better for the White Sox. He is out of the AL, while the Twins were not strengthened all that much in the long term.

It slightly shifts the balance of power between the leagues. It seemed like there has been a significant talent drain from the NL over the past few years.

Short term it really only solidifies the Sox for a third place finish this year.

If by some chance Santana suddenly exploded upon being traded, that would also work out pretty well.

Ah, but it would not have worked out better for the Sox, as now Santana will be able to beat the Attendance Champions a few times each year.

Well I'll be damned GD, but you sure are right. The Mets do indeed play the Yankees and Dodgers. Regardless of the league, Santana sure will get a shot to beat 'em.

I can't wait for the garbage to rain down from the bleacher bums when Santana shuts out the Cubs on a beautiful Friday afternoon.

If you'd quit throwing it, that would be a good start.

Perseverative behavior amongst some of you southside fans is truly remarkable.

Thats right, Bruce Levine. Its all the Sox fans that go to Wrigley and throw garbage out on the field-- something the Cubs front office has been doing for a century now.

No no no. You misunderstood me. I meant you personally were responsible for all of the trash. Forgive me for being unclear.

He missed some starts last year with a sore shoulder

Also just a year or so go he was out with a bad elbow:
Left-hander Johan Santana threw an inning in each of two simulated games during the shutdown and might join the team this week after spending the past two months on the DL with of a tear in the flexor tendon near his left elbow.

So it wasnt a horseshit thing to say, unless of course you hate the truth..lol

Marvelous. Finally a credible link, though I'm not quite sure how credible the source. I mean I could say anything about any trade and then get on the defensive when I'm called out-- "Oh but I read this on whatbaseballtradesmighthappen.com!" Regardless, what I originally said still stands. To be taken seriously, a weblink should have been posted right from the get go.

Forgive me for being obtuse. You said he never provides links or other usefull info. Then I provide the post of yours where you say that it is a credible link provided by Fred. Your own words undo your point.

No sir. The point of that other thread, which I'm quite certain you've read seeing how much time you spend here in the Sox forum, was that he did NOT provide a link until hours later. He claimed he got his info from MLB.com, which was wrong because there was nothing of the sort there when I checked it. So no, you weren't being obtuse. You were just wrong.

I don't believe so. Hours later or not is utterly irrelevent to the point. You stated that he NEVER provides links or useful information. You are undone by your own words.

By the way oh Gatekeeper of the Southsiders Sanctuary, have I exceeded my alotted time here in paradise? I wasn't aware that I had strayed over any boundaries.

You've been known to offer pearls of wisdom in the Cubs section, so don't be a hypocritical prat.

This is what being a white sox fan is now? Getting excited that a pitcher on another gets traded out of the league? Lol....Greeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeat.

By the way, the sox were going finish above the twins anyway, so how does even matter?

Like I said, the White Sox dont have to get better, the other teams just have to get worse.

I know this isn't directed at me personally, but I just wanted to point out that in my first post on this thread I did express some regret that Santana will be gone. He's my favorite player to watch, and we were fortunate to get to see him six times a year.

Sure, he is one of the best in baseball, but my whole point was that he has been injured in the past and even if the twins didnt trade him, it wasnt going to directly impact the white sox getting past the tribe or the tigers in my opinion.
