Perhaps when Trout becomes a free agent, the Cubs get him too.

Having a nice run...

2013 College player of the year
2014 Minor League player of the year
2015 Rookie of the year
2016 MVP and WS Champ

Too bad he is making about 1/30th of Heyward's salary.

That's the thing about the players under team control if they outplay their contract they're not going to get paid for awhile. But there are always old baseball players that get paid for past performance and are no good at the end of their deals. So if Bryant sticks around long enough he'll probably get paid for some bad seasons at the end of his career as well.

He'll get a new deal before this one is over. Probably soon.

He should. If the Cubs are smart they renegotiate his deal... he's still going to get his big contract once this one is up and if the Cubs do the right thing by him now he's going to be much happier as a Cub during the next 6 years.

Boras client. He will take the most money when he hit free agency. No way he signs early and highly unlikely he signs to avoid arbitation years. Doesn't matter how Cubs pay him now.

Bryant is also Boras boss. He makes the decisions not Scotty. It will play out.

If the Cubs offered him the Heyward deal right now, it would be tough to turn down--even knowing he could get $300m+ in five or six years if his performance stayed the same and he had no major injuries.

A dollar today is worth more than a dollar tomorrow. If I were Bryant I would trade some arbitration years for more money today. BTW, his dad is on with Levine right now. He is a real meathead baseball dad. A lot of I did it too I know and me stuff.

I wouldn't give Bryant a penny more than what is owed, he's locked up for 4 or 5 more years for chump change. I keep hearing this dumbfuck Kaplan talk about giving him 300 million...it is ridiculous to suggest such a thing, when he's got 10-12 months left on his deal is when I'd negotiate a long term deal.

He would rightfully leave though.

From a strictly business standpoint though he is right. These days hitters seem to get worse after 28 not better. Use them up and let them walk.

Maybe, maybe not, I don't think he wants to leave, I don't think he would..he ain't hurting for dough. He got a 7 million dollar signing bonus, he's got many endorsement deals and more are coming... He just signed a record contract with Topps baseball cards.

I hear that statement from a Boras represented player at least once a year.

There is a reason you hire Scott Boras.

Agreed. Maybe he'll play for the league minimum!

Players go with Boras for a very specific reason. They know how Boras operates. The players share the same view.

He's not even to his arbitration years yet. No reason to negotiate a deal anytime soon. Something to be said for having players looking ahead to a big contact and having it provide extra motivation to have monster seasons.

Yeah, there have been only a few players who tried to tell Boras the way it was going to be. I think a couple of them parted ways with Boras. And I can only think of one guy- and I don't even remember who it was so I could be wrong- who was a Boras client and took less money to go somewhere he really wanted to be. If Boras is your agent, he's your agent for a reason. He's the best in the business and he's gonna get you paid.

A lot of Cub fans seem to buy into this fantasy that people are willing to take less to be a Cub. I think that stems from Andre Dawson. Anyway, if it were ever true, I think the motivation is gone now for guys who wanted to "break the curse". Players, almost without exception, take the highest offer. That is what Kris Bryant will do. That offer will likely come from the Cubs.
