I wouldn't disagree, but MANY would accuse you of elitism for saying that. You just don't understand the mindset of regular folks.

True. Elitists from Bridgeport have been shoving their shit down our throats since I can remember.

You know what? This self-made boy from a town of 200 in central Illinois doesn't need an elitist wine drinker from the North Shore telling him that lower class white people need to be taken seriously. If you are going to play that card, then you need to come out from under your "diverse" urban rock that purposefully separates you from the white working class and see what they need. It's easy to spout generalities about how we should support the white working class while you're going to your art festivals and faggy musicals while dining on oysters and hipster urban fare. Let me know when you go and eat 4 dollar tenderloins and fried mushrooms with the disenfranchised whites while you hand fish for channel cats that will feed your family. Then maybe you can preach from your ivory tower in your urban utopia.

I love tenderloins and disenfranchised whites. First beer is on me at Sidetrax in Galesburg!

I'll join you guys. I can visit a buddy who is a guest of the state. He is staying at the Hill Correctional Center.

You Googled that, you liar.

Didn't it used to be Stufflebeam's? I'm pretty sure I drank there one night with the Galesburg Bud Girls after training some horses in Trivoli.

@ JORR

I don't know. It's had 8 different owners and names since I was a kid. The most memorable was Crappy's.

Scooter's gonna get a hard-on from this conversation.

It might not be the same place but I think it is. It may not have been called Stufflebeam's but that was the guy I knew who owned it. Maybe this isn't the place but I think it was on Main Street. I think Stufflebeam went on to be mayor of Farmington.

Nobody comes to Galesburg on purpose. You just end up there by chance. Shit hole like Rockford. With way less to do unless you need drugs or boredom.

*Sigh*

It's not "down there." It's almost entirely West of here. But I guess you don't understand generalizations.

I did really well in places like Knox Indiana and parts of southern Illinois. I found that MANY people will do business with you even if they may not like other people who look like you.

Knox Indiana?

Anyway, I'm from Galesburg, and I think you're a total dreamboat. Whatever you're selling, I'm buying.

There was a Confederate flag in front of most homes and they hated Jeff Gordon.

The Jackson County area.

That is the deep Illinois south for sure. Murphysboro or Carbondale?

You're talking about Southern Illinois, which really is on the cusp of "the South." Galesburg is West-Central Illinois, which is more like Iowa.

They loved me in Carbondale and places like Edwardsville and Bellville. There were a lot of veterans and no one loved veterans more than me back then.

I was just talking. The only real time I recall spending anywhere near Iowa was working for Obama.

Anyone ever eat at that "Wiseguys" restaurant in Carbondale? Some of the best greasy drunk food sandwiches I've ever had. Idk if it's still open. I ate there back in 2002.

True. Carbondale is further south than the capital of the Confederacy.

The Barn at SIU was the place to be and the Players Ball was a must attend event.

Just read that it closed in 2006. Was friends of friends with whoever was staying in the house next to it so went there quite a few times. Saved a guy from getting his head run over by a car because he decided to sleep one off in the parking lot... his drunk thinking was if he laid right behind his friends car, they would wake him up before they left.

It's an accepted colloquialism, as odd as it may seem, that anything outside of the Chicago suburbs is "downstate".
