Fenwick was up with just a few seconds to go, and on 4th down at their own 5-yard line, the Fenwick QB heaved a pass downfield knowing that time would expire before the ball came down. The officials called grounding, but also awarded Plainfield an untimed down, which they used to kick a field goal. After the game the officials admitted their mistake but said the call could not be reversed. Brutal!

Denied, Catholic schools have too many advantages in sports already. About time they evened things up a bit.

And it's a high school football game. I'm sure we can find some people more worthy of a DB'ing.

This sounds like bad coaching. Why not punt the ball?

Don't worry. The kids won't remember the results of the game in 20 years anyways.

Lol, which reminds me of another DB nomination. Benet was playing East St. Louis in the other 7A semifinal. I didn't go to the game but several websites including MaxPreps and IHSA had the score as a 20-0 win for Benet. Turns out they had it backwards....Benet was the one who got shut out.

This exact same situation happened a month ago in a college game (central Michigan v. Oklahoma state) That game they used the ill gotten free play to score a 50 yard touch down

Probably should have. I guess the coach used to coach in the Arena League where they have some funky rules, so he may not have been thinking straight.

It was good coaching, it was bad refereeing. They lost in the playoffs in 2012 on a 90 yard punt return with no time left on the clock.

denied - anything that results in a fenwick loss should be on the shoutout board.

Fenwick filed an injunction this evening because the iHSA won't hear their appeal.

Crew in question was scheduled to do one of the Final Games this weekend, that was rescinded today as well. Not a good situation for all parties involved.

I read somewhere that the officiating crew that messed up was scheduled to officiate one of the finals this coming weekend, but that was rescinded. Tough spot for everyone involved.

That's what I posted about yours. The had a semifinal last year and were scheduled for one of the games Friday.

Must have read it there. Well I don't think the lawsuit is going to do much good.

From David Haugh and the Tribune.

There is legal precedence for it and the IHSA has over turned a wrong decision in the past. This will get interesting.

Fenwick's appeal cited a 2008 case in which the Mississippi High School Activities Association reinstated a team into the playoffs three days after a similar enforcement of an incorrect call on the final play of regulation allowed a team to score an apparent game-winning touchdown. Also in 2008, the IHSA established precedent by overturning results of the Illinois wrestling tournament three days after Edwardsville celebrated beating Granite City by ½ of a point. A recount revealed Granite City actually won 217 ½-217 and the IHSA – after initially clinging to a rule that says results must be corrected within 30 minutes of the end of a tournament – rightly reversed the outcome.

In that case, the Edwardsville coach detected the scoring error himself and contacted the Granite City coach in a display of the type of sportsmanship we all want to define youth sports. Likewise, Plainfield North officials have an opportunity to make a bold, principled statement on behalf of honesty and fairness by forfeiting a game the IHSA agrees it lost in regulation.

They should seize it before a judge has to.

What parent would take such a meaningless game to court? This would be a great teaching lesson to your child. Sometimes you actually win, but you still lose. That's life...

Methinks you wouldn't have the same idea if little Douchebag was similarly offended.

I wouldn't spend money filing a lawsuit on a game nobody will remember in 2 weeks.
