If East St. Louis has to play Fenwick and loses they should sue due to lack of time to prepare for a different opponent.

I wouldn't spend money filing a lawsuit on a game nobody will remember in 2 weeks.

You sound like a guy that never played sports.

And I'm sure the legal work is being done pro bono.

And like Haugh said, the IHSA has done this before.

I played a lot of sports. In fact, my sophomore year, we should have won state but got beat in the Elite Eight by an inferior team (we fumbled 8 times), but we had a chance to win it at the end... But the refs called an illegal formation that didn't exist when we were on their 3 yard line. It's on the tape and was clearly wrong.

But you know what? We survived, and people still talk about it to this day.

Let kids learn life ain't fair. The refs didn't do it on purpose.

It is complete bullshit if they have to play a different team then they had to prepare for. The situation that reversed course changed a match that was two weeks later. Game will never happen if Fenwick wins.

Don't leave it up to the refs where making one mistake costs you the game.

It's complete bullshit that you find it amusing when African Americans protest the death of someone while claiming to care that ESL may have to prepare for a different opponent.

Ran into one of the team members at Little Crest's hoops game last night. He would like to play of course, but he said the initial reaction was that the call may be wrong, but he wondered why they just didn't run through the endzone and take a safety.

I don't follow Fenwick Doug, but ESL did barely squeak by Glenbard North in the quarters.

From David Haugh and the Tribune.

There is legal precedence for it and the IHSA has over turned a wrong decision in the past. This will get interesting.

Fenwick's appeal cited a 2008 case in which the Mississippi High School Activities Association reinstated a team into the playoffs three days after a similar enforcement of an incorrect call on the final play of regulation allowed a team to score an apparent game-winning touchdown. Also in 2008, the IHSA established precedent by overturning results of the Illinois wrestling tournament three days after Edwardsville celebrated beating Granite City by ½ of a point. A recount revealed Granite City actually won 217 ½-217 and the IHSA – after initially clinging to a rule that says results must be corrected within 30 minutes of the end of a tournament – rightly reversed the outcome.

In that case, the Edwardsville coach detected the scoring error himself and contacted the Granite City coach in a display of the type of sportsmanship we all want to define youth sports. Likewise, Plainfield North officials have an opportunity to make a bold, principled statement on behalf of honesty and fairness by forfeiting a game the IHSA agrees it lost in regulation.

They should seize it before a judge has to.

The rich people of Fenwick abusing the courts to bully the poor hillbillies of Plainfield. This is exactly why we have an Electoral College.

What does the cost of tuition have to do with alumni taking a game to court to try and correct an injustice?

Somehow a guy waiving a gun getting shot in Mt. Greenwood (after his family initially claimed he was dragged from the car and shot) means I can't think ESL would be getting shafted in a high school football game. Makes perfect sense.
