She certainly stuck it to the City of Chicago when the opportunity arose.

ESL blows

That book (well, the chapter in that book) written about the school was pretty messed up, though (Savage Inequalities)

i didn't read anything on the final score, just the officiating blunder. did Fenwick score a touchdown, kick extra point, to make it 17-10 and then PN scored a touchdown, went for 2 and got it?

If that's the case, Fenwick still had the chance to beat the other team. When I first heard about the story I thought Plainfield North won the game with the chip shot field goal.

Like doug said, either way, i think ESL beats the shit out of either team.

No, Plainfield kicked a chip shot field goal after time expired to tie it in regulation.

But Fenwick was up 10-7, so the proper move was to run the ball into the end zone and take the safety as time expired. And the Fenwick players could have held the Plainfield players like crazy, as the holding penalties would have been irrelevant. Just fucking tackle any Plainfield player who got within 4 yards of the QB.

Even if the refs insisted on an untimed down, it would have been the free kick from the 20 after the safety.

Yes, but the stuff Zach asked about happened in OT.

The coach explained himself pretty well. He said they considered the running out end zone play but he was worried the QB could trip or there was too much time to do it and other things that might happen. He made the right call, just the referees blew it.

He didn't make the right call, because his QB was flagged for intentional grounding. And that should award an untimed down. Another rule in the long line of dumb rules.

No it shouldn't award an untimed down, that's why the IHSA apologized for the officials getting the call wrong.

you can't end a h.s. school football game on an offensive penalty.

also, as soon as the QB goes into the end zone for a safety the clock stops. so, best bet was to run around for 4 seconds.

so the call was right because it can't end on an offensive penalty?

The IHSA statement cited Rule 3-3-4 in the National Federation of High Schools Football Rules Book, which states that a game-ending loss-of-down penalty, such as intentional grounding, does not result in an untimed extra down.

"The game should have concluded on the final play of regulation and the untimed down should not have been awarded," Executive Director Craig Anderson said in the statement.

I don't have a dog in this fight, but screw the IHSA, they robbed my track team of our best shot at a state title when they screwed around with eligibility rules and took away our guy who would have easily won the high jump and took us from 4th to 1st.

Mount Carmel tried this in the 90s with wrestling, and won...and the IHSA's response was to simply cancel the tournament.

I mean, this case was such a slam dunk, Julie DiCaro couldn't have even fucked it up.
